| So saddened and outraged at what I saw! I went to Greece for two weeks and was in the shock of my life. I had NO IDEA they had a stray problem. Every time I turned around there was another stray. I saw children kicking and hitting the dogs, I saw dogs with all their ribs showing, I saw dogs so matted (even when they had an owner) they must've been hurting. The dogs that did have an owner were usually put on a very very short leash and kept outside in the heat. I cried every day. Every time I would go to feed or pet the animals I was told to leave them alone and not feed them (of course I didn't listen). The reason for not feeding the dogs is because they follow you home and bark all night for more food. It was truly and unbearable site for me to witness. The poor animals only wanted love, attention and food. The ones I did pet were so sweet and ate up all the love I gave them. There was one that was just a puppy that wouldn't go near humans because it was afraid. Every time I threw food to it, it would run away and then have to find the food. My guess is people threw things at it so it was scared from that. I needed to vent, so thanks for listening.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This is the way that it is in lots of other countries. I know that several years ago an artist in South America tied a a starving dog up and filmed it's death. People in the United States were outraged; he said that thousands of dogs die daily in his country and wanted to bring attention to the problem. Spay and neutering laws in this country have made such a difference. It wouldn't take long before our cities were overrun without these laws. People object to them because they cost money and because they do take away a little individual freedom, but if you've ever seen the problem in person, I'm sure you realize this is a small price to pay in order to prevent the needless sufferings of millions of dogs. One thing that bugs the heck out of me, is that in some countries where men think it’s emasculating to have a dog without testicles, there’s seems to be an even bigger problem! Cesar Millan has done a lot to help spread the news that you can still be macho and own a neutered male.

| Oh, that makes me so sick. How do we fix the starving dogs and starving babies in other countries? I really hate problems that I can't solve.

| Ever been to Mexico? Even in Acapulco and Mexico City, it is appalling to see the state of their dogs and cats running loose in the streets.

| I was in Athens Greece for 8 days in May of this year and saw the exact same thing. It was very sad. They just don't feel the same way about pets and animals in general as we do. Stray dogs were everywhere but you know what the weird part was they knew when to cross the streets. It was like they understood green light go and red light stop. I watched this several times. I also went to Santorini and Patmos and a few other islands but I didn't see as many stray dogs. Yes I was very saddened by the condition of the dogs and I wish I could no more. Right now the only thing I can do to help is donate to the ASPCA which I do automatically on a monthly basis. Heck I saw a man, a woman and a child squashed between the two on a scooter on a main highway. If we saw that here, people would have immediately call the cops and child protection services. The child couldn't of been more than 4 or 5 years old. 3 people on a scooter in rush hour on a main road....go figure. Maybe we were just experiencing culture shock and just not used to seeing such things. |

| Oh my gosh. I had no idea this was happening in other countries. Again, I am guilty of living in my own "world". This is just so sad. How heartbreaking.

| I was also in Athens and Santorini, I saw it everywhere but the worst was in the villages. I had no idea this was going on either and I too donate to the ASPCA.
