YT Addict | Abby's mom nervous again Abby is due to be spayed this month as she will be 6 months old. I am already worried about it but now the drs office informed me Abby will have to stay overnight. But there is no one there from 7 pm until 7 am. I am very anxious about this What if Abby needs something during the night? Is this normal routine or just my doctors office? |

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | I was able to take mine home after spay and neuter. I would really try to bring her home. Ask why she has to stay when no one is there

| I am not sure what your doctor's reasoning is about this decision. The only thing I can think of is maybe they do their surgeries later in the day and they don't think the dog will be recovered enough to pick up by closing time. I would discuss it with the office and see if they will allow you to get your dog before closing time. If they are doing surgery in the evening your dog will likely sleep all night though I don't like the idea of no one being there. |

| Is there another vet in the area that let's the animals go home after surgery or at least has someone to observe them when they stay the night? |

| Callie got to come home the day she was spayed. i would really ask them why shes needs to stay there over night if no one is going to be there and let them know you are very concerned about that. I dont think I could ever leave Callie over night any where that there are not going to be people there the hole time.

| Mine stayed overnight and I was ok with that BUT they have 24 hr round the clock vet techs on duty. If they didn't have 24 hr techs I would have insisted on them coming home. I'm a nurse (not a Vet) but I think they would have been better off with me than alone.

YT Addict | I will check into other places to have her spayed. I know me and I won't sleep a minute whether she is home or not but at least I will know her condition if she is here with me. I like her vet and if they will let me take her home then fine. If not she will go somewhere else for the spay. |

| I was given the option of letting Bella stay or pick her up. I opted to let her stay. I knew that would give her 24 hours of not trying to keep her from running around or jumping for that time period. I felt better doing that myself. If your uncomfortable, ask why, it's ok. If you trust this vet there really shouldn't be a problem. |

| My vets office was the same way- I refused- I told them I felt more comfortable if she had supervision overnight. I had to sign a paper that I had taken her home against doctor's orders and I was fine with that. They really can't force you to leave your pet if you don't want to.

| They can't make you. Just pay the bill and take her home (no $$, then they can hold her). It happens all over and is not ok. If she comes out of the anesthesia in a concerning way or react to the pain meds or the incision splits or the IV gets chews - what then? No problem if there is somebody there watching them. In this case, she should come home or get it done somewhere else. I would have been fine if the vet office kept Ellie when she was spayed because at that time we went to one staffed 24/7. But even then (with a liver biopsy added on), she was released the same day. If you explain that you aren't comfortable with this, they might try to work with you (sign a waiver, talk about transfer to ER for monitoring, etc.).

| I took Roxie home a few hours after her spay. I couldn't leave her there unsupervised, and I figured she would be more comfortable at home with us. She came home and slept for most of the first 24 hours. Make sure you ask about pain meds. I didn't and I feel bad every time I think about how much pain she must have been in the first few days.

YT Addict | That is how I feel as well. I will have to talk to the vet again and see if something can be worked out. Riley is also going to get fixed, but he was already signed up at Banfield. I don't know what their policies are but he goes Thursday for his last shots so I may as well check into his options as well. |
