| AKC Registered Names I was wondering about full names on the AKC papers. Our bulldog was a show prospect and he was given a full name... now our Chloe is very much a pet and we still gave her a registered name of Nevarez's Grand Diva Chloe (kinda corny, I know, but she has always been a diva and will never be shown)... now for our little Toby I am thinking about Nevarez's October Witch Hunt becuase he was so hard to find. DH thinks I should just put Toby on the papers. What are your opinions with this? |

| Well, I vote go for the big name . But then again I come from a show background. Since you will not be showing no one else will see it so do what you want. I like big names because they have meaning. Angel is a Coton de Tulear, meaning Cotton from Tulear (largest port in Madagascar where they come from). Her big name is Angelique de Ile Sainte Marie because Ile Sainte Marie is an island right off the coast with a VERY interesting history - and I can pronounce it unlike most of the other places in Madagascar. I like the name you picked out, it is cute and has meaning to you and that is what counts. And Toby as a call name is very cute too!

| Oh I just love Coton de Tulear's. When we were looking for a hypoallergenic dogs, Coton's were on our short list. Unfortunately, we were hard pressed to find ANY in our area. I was willing to travel 4 or 5 hours and nothing! I think I am going with the big name... while it won't be seen anywhere, it does have meaning to me... October is when I started searching for puppy #2, and it can be shortened to Toby which is what we call him! And he was very hard to find... Thanks again, I also LOVE your little girls name =) |

| I vote to go for it. I gave both of my pet Yorkies big registered names. Teddy's was already taken, so AKC added III to his name.

| I like that name! I registered Couver as 'Couver' because I didn't know anything about AKC names work. I guess there are no other Couvers out there because the AKC didn't have to change it.

| Can you choose his name ? cool ! Here in the Icelandic Kennel Club only the breeder can choose a name and when the pedigree for a litter is gotten the breeder has to give them all names, you can't change those names.

| Fido is registered as Gulltoppa Amadeus Happy Cover. In english : Goldentopps Amadeus Happy Cover. All the pups from the breeder have the first name Gulltoppa/Goldentops, then Amadeus (it was his name at the breeders), Happy comes from his father which is Sea Star's Plenty Of Happiness, Cover comes from his mother her registered name is Rosetopp's Cover Girl. If I would be able to choose his name it would be Gulltoppa Happy Go Lucky Fido.

| Thanks everyone! I am going to go for it! I mean, if AKC lets us name them big fancy names whether we choose to show or not, then why not do it, right? |

| My 4 have big registered names (not fancy) with AKC and they are just my sweet babies.

| I have a name chosen, but I never registered my pup. It's not fancy, it's actually silly and dorky. But it fits with his new family! I'm glad you're going to go ahead and name him whatever you want.

| Yes go with the big name. All 4 of mine have fancy AKC names, it looks good on their pedigree. |

| Every Yorkie, show or pet should have a full AKC name of their very own....or AKC will just put a number after a single name. |
