YorkieTalk Newbie! | After being housebroken my dog started peeing in the house again She is 18 months old and we have had her for 4 month. When we first got her she had a few accidents, I don't think she was fully trained even so the owner said she was, but then she went outside without a problem. In the last week she started peeing a few times in the house and she knows it's wrong, she acts very guilty. She still holds it all night and then goes outside first thing in the morning but during the day is when she does it inside, I am home so she can let me know she has to go. not all the time but maybe once or twice and then she goes a day without doing it. She is a healthy loving dog and we are happy to have her but it is a problem and to me a mystery. When she goes outside she runs around like crazy at times and looks like she is trying to mark her territory, I didn't think females did this. I know during the time of the year we have all kinds of little critters in the yard so this could account for the marking. All this is new in the last few weeks. I am at a loss as to what is going on. Hopefully someone here had this problem and can give me some help. Thank you in advance for any help. |

| Is she spayed? Females do mark their territories just like males do. My sister in law has a 6 year old yorkie who is for the most part potty trained but still to this day have accidents. Also make sure that when you clean her accidents up, to clean it with an enzymatic cleanser. This will remove the smell so they wont go back to it later on.

| Yes, females will mark their territory, spayed or not...what I would do..is talk to her ask her if she has to potty, than say to her, lets go outside and potty and keep saying that to her until you are outside, than say go potty hurry up...I would also take her outside every few hours and on the way out, talk to her say lets go outside and potty...Yorkies are very smart, she will pick up on it and soon will start coming to you and either bark at you or just sit and look at you...mine bark at me, and will not stop until I take them outside to potty...and when she does potty outside throw a potty party, tell her what a good girl she is and give her a treat. good luck!

| I am a long time owner/trainer of big dogs and have always been an opponent of treat training. Then I got my Angel, my first little dog, and had to eat my own words. I went through everything I know, did a lot of new research, and nothing worked till I started giving a good treat. Even the praise and potty party didn't work till I added the yumyum. Doesn't have to be big, just a little bite. She may also be starting to really settle in. Changing homes can be very hard on dogs. It sounds like she has figured out she is going to stay with you and wants to lay claim to you and yours. Use the spray and try not to tear your hair out

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I did wonder about the settling in part. She seemed really scared when she first came to us, the owners were very young and going thru a seperation so I asume there was a lot of yelling. But now she knows she owns the place and I guess she wants to make sure we all know it. I think I will get a different treat and I have been keeping my eye on her, every time I look at her she has this 'now what do you want' expression on her face. I will try and keep my hands away from my hair. Thanks for the reply, everything helps. |

| I know you said she is healthy, but have you had her checked out for a UTI? females are more prone to it than males. It could also be she's still settling in. Regardless, rule out a physical problem first for piece of mind.
