| Leash unhooked today while walking Teddy! We are fine thank goodness, but I am now concerned about his harness/leash. The harness is fine (I'm using the easy walk) but the clasp on the leash that attaches to the d-ring for whatever reason opened on its own. Has anyone experienced this? Was this just a freak accident or do I have a defective leash? This is the leash that I have: PETCO Retractable Red Belt Leash for Dogs at PETCO

| That's scary. I am glad everything turned out ok. I have never used one of those retractable leashes though. I don't think I'd use it again.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yow, how scary!!! Could have it stayed open, a stuck latch? I'd definitely replace it; I'd return it because the manufacture needs to know about this. You were very lucky! I have three retractable leashes, and we've never had any problems with them, love them.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I don't like retractable leads particularly with the handle, which is large and awkward. They are only recommended in my dog training circles, for specific early day training of a puppy in a "controlled" environment. The clip should not release from it's attachment point at all. Perhaps you do have a defective model

| Do you have a link to the ones you have? I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the d-ring of the harness is in the front and that causes to much stress with all the tugging and pulling? I need to go buy a new leash today and I'm trying to figure out if I should get a new harness too. I started crying because Teddy likes being chased and he started running because he wanted to "play." I'm still upset.

| That is worst news ever for a dog owner. It could cost your sweet baby its life. I would definitely let the maker know and so glad that your baby is safe. Whew! Some dogs would have been long gone.

| How scary!! I just checked out the link and I do believe I have the same leash in blue. I don't use it anymore because it never seems to close properly! It appears as though the spring is a little lose and there's a tiny space where it's suppose to close. I'm just so glad that everyone is ok.

| So happy to hear Teddy is ok even if he scared his mommy. I always worry about that when I am walking my dogs.

| Well I think it's time you wrote a review about it on the petco site. I wouldn't use any brand other than Flexi. They are made in Germany. All the other generic ones are made in China. It's not that much more for a Flexi. I love mine.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'm glad you posted this. That has happened to me before, and I'll bet it's not uncommon. I don't use retractables, but I'm gonna check all my leashes out and see if there are any that look weak. Thanks!
