| Sounds like a puppy to me, how old is she? When Callie was bitting feet when she was a puppy we carried a water bottle and would squirt her once and say "No" and it worked very well for us and she learned pretty fast. At night when she is crying and barking can she see you? Are you responding to it an anyway? Having a puppy can be very tiring but please remember not to take it out on the puppy she just needs time and training everything is new to her.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Of course she bites, she's only 9 1/2 weeks old. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/3605134-post1.html She was taken away from her littermates way too young and has not learned bite inhibition. It will be up to you to teach it to her.

| Sounds like you have a puppy! If you are already getting tired of it, you have a long road ahead and you might want to look into puppy kindergarten (training) classes for small breeds. This is normal puppy behavior and it takes patience, persistance, patience/ repetition, patience/ praise/repetition... etc to train your baby

| Wow, that's young...she is just a baby. By not staying with her mama until 12 wks she misses all that she would have been taught by her mom and litter mates. So now, that task will be yours and I'm sure it won't be an easy one. Hopefully, others can help guide you on what to do to teach one so young. Maybe get busy reading on proper techniques on training bite inhibition etc and puppy class when fully vaccinated may be a good idea too. Positive reinforcement, patience, be consistent and lots of praise will be needed. Good luck!

| Hang in there! When my previous Yorkie (I got her when she was only 8 weeks - this was 9 years ago) was biting, I used a sound (AH!) and a snap of my fingers at the same time. I reserved no for more serious things - like when I saw her near a electrical cord or something. Also, after redirecting her attention from biting, I gave her something else to chew/bite on. When she chewed on the new item, I made sure to praise her. She liked me to hold her chew, so for the rest of her wonderful life, every time she got a chewie she would bring it to me to hold and lay on my arm as she chewed. (I say this to let you know it does get better, it just takes a bit of time and extra patience.) For the first two months, most of my time spent at home was spent playing with her and making sure she was tired for bedtime. One of her favorite things was to shred an entire roll of toilet paper. To this day, I do not put the rolls on the holder. I caught her one time and just laughed (not what I should have done, I know). She was on her hind legs swatting at the paper and when she caught it and it unraveled should would pounce on it and shred it! She sure had fun! I was tortured too for a bit when I first got her. She would not sleep at night so for the first 6-8 weeks I had her I made a pallet on the floor in the living room and that is where we slept. She slept much better when she could curl up on the pillow touching my head. I also made sure she spent time with my best friends dog. I think that really helped with the socialization. They were only allowed together when someone was home with them - but boy did they play! If you let your baby around other dogs, be sure the other dog is up to date on their shot records. It is not your fault the breeder gave her to you so early. But now it is up to you to help your puppy become a wonderful adult dog. If you work long hours, you may want to consider having someone stop by and spend some time with you baby mid-day. Hang in there and try not to get too frustrated. |
