| New Toy = Weirdness! Yesterday I picked up a new toy for Roxie. It's a little KONG ducky. When I gave it to her she became super protective of it, and wouldn't even put it down. She didn't want to play or come sit with us on the couch. She didn't want to go out or even eat dinner, for fear that one of us was going to take her ducky! She either laid in her bed or on the floor with the ducky in her mouth. The only way I could get her to eat dinner was for me to sit at the kitchen table and not move...then she came over and quickly gobbled up her dinner. SO couldn't get her to go out for her final walk last night without her taking the ducky out with her. Then she wouldn't pee, she just sat in the grass licking the ducky. Finally, he took it away from her and she got very angry...barking and jumping at him. What the heck is this all about? I have given her plenty of new toys and chewy sticks and whatnot, but I have never seen her act like this before! Is this normal? What is so special about this ducky? Should I not give it back to her?

| Im wondering if she is going though an imaginary pregnancy? My cousin's dog Chelsea just went through one and she refuses to do her normal activities and carries her stuffed toy around. the symptoms you described sounds like chelsea when she was going through it. is roxie spayed?I think it is possible that shes imagining that thish duckie is her baby...

| Yes, I had her spayed right after I got her nearly 2 years ago. Look at this sad little soul.

| Oh my gosh! My family dog did that once, it was a snake. It was so weird! And, it happened to be haloween. So this whole time I've thought it was supernatural lol. I am glad to hear someone else seeing this happen. After a few weeks he finally forgot about it one day and we quickly got rid of that thing! It was the weirdest thing, he would just lay with it in his mouth, just like you said, and we couldn't even get close to him and that thing! I've always wondered what the heck that meant. It can't be pregnancy thing-he was a neutered male.... Maybe they thing its a baby? I have no idea but it was funny and scary at the same time. |

| It doesn't seem all that odd to me but maybe that's because I have an OCD dog It sounds more like obsessive behavior. Try taking the toy away for a couple of days and see what happens. My Cooper is obsessed with his ball. He won't play with anything else but he lays with his ball, plays with it, brings it to bed, etc. If I take it away he'll start acting more normally and begin focusing on other things. It's hard though because he really loves his ball.

| Thank You Karen. Yahoo someone who doesn't think I am a nut case ! My Gracie has OCD. ( My sister who is a Pastor, family counselor and psychologist just rolled her eyes when I said Gracie has OCD) Gracie was a rescue and has many problems. She has panic attacks, separation anxiety, and is obsessive about certain toys. She has little rituals she does to comfort herself. I only let Gracie have her Pink Babytoy to sleep with other wise she guards it all day ! |

| It's really hard to take away because he loves to play with it. But perhaps it's like a drug addiction whereas it's not healthy. Either way I let him have it a few hours per day. Sometimes Max takes it away from him and he doesn't get aggressive so I'm thinking it's ok for now.

| Very interesting. I have never had a dog do that. Sounds like how I was when I first got my iPad. LOL! I am interested to check out the Kong ducky next time I got to Petsmart. No telling what goes on in these little guys brains. Hopefully she will relax with it after a little while. |
