No Longer a Member | Packing for the Prince Hey all, as some of you may know from my other posts I'm moving soon, in fact waiting for the movers to come check out my house hold goods so they know how many boxes to bring on the big day. So, I've pretty much figured I'll be living out of a suitcase for about 2 months, maybe give or take a week. I have no idea what I need to pack for myself other than clothes and bathroom necessities. But more importantly, I'm lost when it comes to figuring out what to bring for the pets. The obvious stuff is food and dishes to eat the food from, leash and halter for Rizzo, and disposable litter box for the kitty. I'll be carrying all the vet info as well, but as far as what they'll need to keep them comfy I'm lost. Rizzo doesn't really have a favorite blanket, and the cats favorite blanket is my comforter (which is getting packed). What all will I need for the flight, 6 hours from Naples to the East Coast...Rizzo will be flying in cabin with me and chatterbox kitty will be in the cargo area for the pets. I've read to freeze the water in the dish for Fatso so it'll be melted by the time he is thirsty without risking it all spilling out before the flight. I've read I can't even open the carrier while on the plane, but 6 hours is a long time to go without drinking any water or going potty. I am worried that after a couple hours he's going to get bored in his carrier and start acting up. Are there any safe chewies out there that I can give him without running a huge risk of choking? More questions to follow, I think the movers may be outside. |

| Okay for flying: A blankie in the carrier and one for you to drape over the carrier, it gets cold when they blast the AC on the plane. Nutri-cal- always have it, never need to use it type thing. (a small vial of karo syrup will work as well) Some exciting treats- something you can get him to eat without much effort. I don't worry about bringing water and just ask for a cup of water and/or ice cubes once I am on the plane. A wee wee pad for quick bathroom break in the plane bathroom- takes some work but I am a pro at it now, LOL! Wipes I am actually adding a hand towel to my list now- as on my last flight the turbulence plus some other factors caused Chloe to pee all over herself and I had to wash her in the bathroom sink. For once you arrive at your new place- bring some bedding that has not been washed, so it smells like "home"- bring some toys, make sure you have a tag on your baby with current contact info- a way people would be able to reach you in your new place. Good Luck! I have flown a lot and moved a lot with my two- they are way more adaptive then we give them credit for- almost everything I have kept myself up at night worrying about has never happened and those that have turned out to not be such a big deal. Like barking on the airplane, crying on the airplane, peeing on themselves- lol! It all happened and everything worked out.

| I take them in the carrier to the bathroom, take them out in the bathroom and let them go and then put them back in before I leave. The flight attendants have noticed and they never care- they usually say something like "guess its time for a bathroom break"- LOL. I am really good on the plane about following the rules- they stay in the carrier totally under the seat in front of me for the entire flight, they are very quiet, etc. So I think they are willing to let it slide just for a quick potty break, especially since they are only out inside the bathroom.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I attach a little water bottle to the crate, (if you are using a crate and not a purse carrier)that way they can sip water as needed. Line the carrier with a peepad (in case of accidents) and it will also help keep them warm. I use my sweater to put over the crate, or you can just ask attendant for a blanket. I use a purse carrier, and I can place my passport wallet, keys etc in its' side pockets, along with some food for the pup. This way I'm not carrying a purse as well as a dog carrier.
