| "Your dog is too big!" WHAT?!?! Ok let me start that my family is a very loving family...but they do not know anything about a dog. My grandpa owns a chihuahua/daschund (sp?) mix named Star, that he thinks he can feed anything to including cooked bones and a whole corn on the cob. He feeds Star Dog Chow and any left over food they have. I have tried to talk to him about dog nutrition. Also, I would like to add that he loves this dog with all his heart. When she needed surgery, he was at the vet in a heartbeat and was crying because he was scared that he was going to loose her. (Star got pregnant and needed a c-section. I tried to convince him to spay her at the time but not sure if he did). One of my uncle just recently adopted a chihuahua (i think). Well yesterday, he left Tiny in the car with the window cracked while we were at Church. I did not know this until we walked out of Church and saw her in there. I just about smashed his window open. I explained to him that it is illegal to leave his dog in the car and she could have died of heat exhaustion. She is a tiny little thing and they seem to think that she is not going to grow any bigger. And this same uncle is telling me that my dog is too big! WHAT?! How is he too big if he is only 3.7 lbs at 18 weeks? He keeps boasting that his dog will not grow any bigger because she is a "Teacup". To tell you the truth, I think the dog is not even 8 weeks yet. Trust me people, I tried everything to explain to my family about dogs, and I will continue trying. I already made my grandpa upset because I didnt want Sparky to eat the Beneful, my cousin is feeding her Pomeranian/Miniature Pincher (sp?) mix. I explained to him that he might get diarhea and that food is not good anyway. He called my dog, too sensitive because he feeds his dog anything. Sorry about the long rant. It just gets tiring trying to correct them. But with that I will keep trying anyway. Thanks for listening. ETA: I would like to add that I hope Sparky gets bigger because i feel like he is too tiny.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It sounds like you've done a good job of trying to educate them and they don't want to listen because they think they already have all the answers. If they don't want to learn, they won't & will try to make you feel stupid. I'd just give it up and spend your energy more constructively. You gave it your best shot! Years back there was a book I was going to buy called, "All You Can Do Is All You Can Do, and That's Enough". After looking at it for awhile, I decided the title said it all and put the book back on the shelf. Just remembering the title has helped in many situations.

| Its good that you are trying to educate your family. All you can do is give them the information. You make the rules for your baby and they can just live with it. Dont feel guilty because you stood up for a tiny dog,Im not sure that I wouldnt of tried to smack the uncle and not the window. When someone makes a crack about what my dog eats because theirs eats ANYTHING. I tell them that she isn't a garbage disposal and that it they arent willing to eat it then they shouldn't expect a 3,4 oh heck 70lb dog to eat it. |

OP, you did your best to try to educate your family. I have the same situation with my family. They won't listen to me when it comes to spay and neuter, but when their babies are in trouble, they'll call me in a heartbeat. Just be there to educated them when they're open to it. I won one small battle. My uncle added a female to his crew. He already has 2 unaltered male dogs. He at the very least had the female spayed.

| When Princess was about 6.5lbs. someone told me she looked too big for a yorkie & a relative (wont say any names) told me she thought Princess would be the size of my hand---I'd be amazed if any dog was full grown at ten weeks! Of course now, she's "teapot" status & no one says a thing.

| Completely understand. We went to Kentucky a couple of weeks ago for a family reunion. Stayed at an uncles house and he kept telling me that Bella needed some scraps. Yea right. He wanted me to let her out to run. (She doesn't do well with the come back command) and if she were to get scent of a rabbit she'd be gone. We usually haul our motorcycles in our horse trailer with our bed. Lamb motel on wheels. So while at the reunion, it was to hot to take her, we locked her in the trailer with the air on and tv. That way I knew no one could get to her and do foolish things. I'm just a tad bit over protective I guess or I've done to much research. Pick one. |

| My Tinker is 5.4 lbs and I had someone tell me "she's awfully big for a yorkie". I don't know what these people expect. One the size of a hamster??? I don't understand why size is so important to people.

| I had the same thing at the dog park in our town. Some lady 1st said, my but he's energetic isn't he......and then proceeded to tell me that she had never seen a Yorkie that big. Jasper weighs about 7 1/2 lbs. He is all boy and has a lot of muscle and just perfect. She proceeded to tell me that all the Yorkies she has seen are about 3 - 4 pounds. What does she know anyway.....the vet said he is just great and in good shape. Made me so mad I saw RED |

| Thanks for the responses guys. I don't like to force information to my family but if I see the opportunity I will take it.
