| Ugh I so hate stupid people I have a Parti Yorkie and I hate when people come up to me and ask me what breed he is, and when I say Yorkie they turn up their noses and say " Yorkies dont come in white". Like what this lady told me today on another website: "I think that, although your dog may be registered as having come from two conformation titled Yorkshire terriers, a dog other than the one on the papers was the actual sire of your dog. The Yorkshire terrier doesn't carry a broken color gene; it only comes in blue & tan. Some other male dog got under the fence or in the door or something, mated with the female and produced a puppy. It is technically possible for every puppy in a litter to have a different father. That would easily explain the genetics of an off-colored pup in a litter of a breed that only comes in blue & tan." I told her she shouldn't speak out on things that she is ignorant about. I just hate when people try to make you feel inferior and dumb, when they are actually the ignorant ones. Sorry I just had to really get that off my chest. |

| I can't stand people like that either. Sometimes you can use the opportunity to try to educate them but sometimes you just have to shake your head and say to yourself - whatever. My Dad used to have a saying about people like that - Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig. |

| I've had Bichons for years and belong to a Bichon List for Bichon owners, much like YorkieTalk for Yorkie owners. This is my favorite story, and it's true! This is a true story. The perpetrators are members of the Bichon Frise List and they live in Florida. This is an actual e-mail message posted on the Bichon List in November of 1998. "There is no doubt that many folks have not had the pleasure of making their first Bichon encounter. When first confronted by the effervescent "Fluff," many of these curious individuals will refer to a Bichon as a Poodle simply because they just don’t know the difference, and, in virtually every case, these people appreciate being introduced to the correction and brief summation of the intricacies of the Bichon breed. But, there will always be the know-it-all, who, despite being presented with proper information in the presence of others, insists upon choosing to exert their so called canine wisdom for the personal purpose of climbing to the intellectual loft in an effort to appear as if their worldly experiences will forever place them above their peers. We all know someone of this sort. A most recent run in with a woman fitting this description produced the following statement. "Oh noooooooo ... of course the Bichon is a Poodle ... Don’t you know that Bichons are a type of Poodle Mutt?" "Bichons were the street dogs of China." "You know how the story went ... Marco Polo ... sailed for the French Crown and brought the Poodle with him as an offering to the King of Siam ... things happened, and, do I have to go on, you know how these things happen ..." We are not making this up ... this actually came from the mouth of someone in our town at a recent, non-animal-related, fund raiser. Some people just do not get it! Not only the Bichon issue, but life, in general. After the event, on the way to retrieve our car from the parking lot, we ran into this woman again. Across the street was a couple walking their dog. The dog clearly appeared to possess a melange of canine genealogical legacies and certainly was not any specific breed. Chet decided to capitalize upon the moment. Chet pointed to the dog and commented to the women that he was really shocked to see one of those "rare" dogs in this part of the country. The woman inquired further and Chet offered that the dog was, without question, a very rare Jamaican Blue Mountain Terrier; the same breed which once trotted through the halls of English Royalty during their jaunts to castles of old on the once crown colony. Given Chet’s professional position, the woman could hardly question what she was hearing. And so it went, a lot more detail was offered, mostly from the woman who now seemed to recall an encyclopedic knowledge of this new fictitious breed. I was trying so hard not to laugh that I was not able to commit it all to memory. What is most disturbing, however, is that this woman is held in high esteem by the local public masses who have only had the opportunity to come to know her through her carefully scripted comments to the press. We will not say who, but for those of you who live in Central Florida, you would recognize her name in an instant We know Chet’s little trick was not a nice thing to do ... but ... sometimes ......... | Oh, yeah, a rare black maltese! A friend kept talking about his "miniature collie" and I said oh, you have a shetland sheepdog. He said no, it was registered and it was a miniature collie. I just said to look at the registration. A few days later, he admitted that the dog was a shetland sheepdog. It was of no importance, but he was so snotty about what breed the dog was and snotty about admitting he was wrong. I didn't say anything more but wondered why he had never looked at the registration for his dog! |

| Not to be argumentative, but Maltese did come in other colors at one time. Whether any of those genes have survived in the bloodline to this day, I don't know. It is possible though, and a black Maltese would be rare. "From 1902 to 1913 The Kennel Club offered classes for Maltese dogs, other than white. The first entry made under this classification was made in 1908 and the last was made in 1913. The colored Maltese differed from the white variety. The English standard for the Maltese called for the white variety not to exceed 12 pounds. The colored variety could not exceed 8 1/2 pounds. All colors were admissible into the colored classes. The white variety were required to be pure white. Besides the size difference, there were other variations between the two varieties. The colored coats were coarser textured than the white coats. The head of the colored Maltese tended to be shorter muzzled and broader skulled than those of the white Maltese." From this link... The Maltese Breed History

| I think it's just wrong for somebody to say that to you, esp. with the way they worded it. That said, I've been a member of YT for awhile, read a bit about Partis and Biewers, think they are beautiful and special dogs, but still don't get it. There are so many questions surrounding these pups and I still wonder about mixing white colored breeds with Yorkies way back. No idea. But I have some of the same questions as this person did on that other forum.
