| When to get spayed? Pita is 5.5 months old now and I know they can be fixed at 6 months but I don't want to have it done too soon. I have also read that if it's done too soon they can keep growing?! What is the ideal age? |

| ZoE's vet recommends 6 months or later. ZoE will be 7 months old on July 9th & she was spayed two days ago. She's recovering nicely. I found baby onesies to be the best thing to put on her to stop her from licking her incision.

| My vet said, between 6 and 7 months, closer to 7. Mina has an apt on the 13th and will be 7 months on the 27th. She will still probably have to have her baby canines pulled at the same time, they dont seem to want to go away and her adults are almost in all of the way. |

| All the girl pups I had were spayed between 6 and 7 months. Good luck!

| If I had a dog to spay now, I would do it at 6 months. My dog was spayed earlier than that and she's 11 now and I have not ever had an issue from spaying her early. I would definitely do it before the first heat.

| Douglas was adopted from a animal shelter and they fix them before you are allowed to take them home, so when we got Douglas we thought he was 2 months, but the Vet later said more like 4 months (this was after we got him) our other dog (beagle mix) was fixed around his age of 9 weeks when we adopted him from the same shelter as well. I understand both sides but why is it not good to do it young? |

| I'd planned to get Belle spayed between 7-8 months, she still had some baby teeth that hadn't come out. She turned 7 months old on June 1st and went into heat a week later.... she's just finishing up now. (Its been a LONG month!!!!) I wish that I hadn't waited because my 2 male dogs (both neutered) started marking in the house while she was in heat! So, my advise would be to have Pita spayed before 7 months.

| If you trust your vet, then I'd let them guide you on when to get it done. JMO, spaying very young should be left for shelter med. It is not as healthy and I'd never subject my pet to it. I personally wouldn't consider it before 5 months and likely wouldn't do it before 6 months. I wouldn't have a problem waiting a bit beyond that either. Baby teeth have time to come out and spay incontinence is less of an issue if it's not done at such a young age. For large breeds, my personal belief is that holding off til nearly fully grown isn't a bad idea.
