| Newbie to YT but already love it! Kizzie is a new addition to our family, she is a Morkie who at 9 weeks weighed in at a whopping 1 pound 6 ounces. I am a single mom how is self employed. I have a 5 year old daughter named Melanie, 2 big giant rag doll cats and our newest addition, Kizzie the morkie As you can see Kizzie takes after her Yorkie Dad in appearance and is cute as can be! Kizzie has been with us for 2 weeks now, she was adopted from someone who got her from what I assume is a byb as she was adopted out at 6 weeks (illegal here in california) the people who got her found out one of them had a very serious illness and they will be in the hospital long term if not indefinitely.. so they wanted to make sure their new puppy went to a great home who would lover her to pieces like they had planned on doing. In the 2 weeks since she came home with me, I have worked on crate training, that's going slowly with Kizzie.. she prefers to go on paper/pads and if you leave a magazine or paper on the floor while she is out and about she will run over and try to pee on it.. We are working on clicker training.. She will sit on command as well as spin in a circle but so far that's all I've been able to get her to do. I take her to my daughters pre-school every day when we drop her off and pick her up, the kids take turns petting her and tossing a ball for her to chase (very supervised, these kids have experience with small animals as the pre-school is a nature based school that has all kinds of animals they teach the kids to care for and how to handle) Kizzie also goes to work with me, I have a couple clients with dogs so she gets to play with those dogs, both big and small, though I am hoping to find a better way to socialize her with more dogs but giving her size I'm hesitant to take her to a dog park just yet.. wouldn't take but a blink of an eye for her to get hurt. I'm currently looking into several local trainers to see about putting her into puppy classes with my daughter.. I'm comfortable clicker training at home but I think a class environment will help Kizzie and my daughter communicate better. Any advice you have on this is welcome! Thanks for all the welcome messages I've already gotten, what a great community you all are!! |

| Kizzie and your daughter are very cute. I took my first Yorkie to Petsmart puppy classes. There were several small dogs there and she did great. I think she forgot a lot of what she learned because we have added 3 more Yorkies since then.

| Hi - Your little Morkie is beautiful. We have a new Morkie too. She is 14 weeks and my girls who are 9 and 12 are having the best time with her!! She is currently 1 lb 4 ozs so I know what you are going through with trying to socialize such a little one. She starts puppy classes on the 13th. She thinks she is a lot bigger than she is because she isn't afraid of anything and tries to go by all the big dogs.

| Hi and welcome to YT. Both of your babies are cuties. It sounds as though Kizzie is right where she should be. Just wanted to say that I would be very careful of having Kizzie around other animals and dog parks depending on her vaccinations. I am sure you know about all of this having other animals. I have always wanted a ragdoll. I had 2 persians.

Yeah She's almost to her 3rd round of shots which would allow her to go to a dog park in our neighborhood.. but I'm not sure that's such a great idea even fully vaccinated right now! lol I've been by there and even the "small dog" area is full of dogs 20-30lbs.. which is 10-20 times Kizzies size. If I trusted all the owners I wouldn't mind, but they are all strangers.. The ragdolls are funny.. true to their name, you pick them up and they go limp like a ragdoll.. My big guy lets my daughter tote him around and play with him like he's a toy.. I have a girlfriend with Persians.. hers are very persnickety but gorgeous cats. | |
