| She's an Artist...of the Conning Kind!!! I want to treat Princess for going potty. She relapsed in March but has been doing great using the pee pads in the bathroom. Here lies the problem...she tells me she's went by coming to me & "kicking up the dirt". I have her show me and praise what I see, then she runs to the treats & waits. Well this little naughty-kin is "saying" she goes potty when she doesn't! I go look & nothing's there but I don't want to say no in there & make her think potty in there is bad. How do I stop this scammer? Do you always treat your pup after potty or just praise? If I stop treating her will she regress? What should I do to get her to stop lying to her mother?

| Ha! ZoE does "ghost pees" too in an effort to get treats! She will go to her pad & actually squat down like she's peeing and then hop up all excited & go to where the treats are & spin in circles of excitement...and there is NOTHING on the pad. She is such a lil faker!!! I give her treats everytime she goes potty, but not for the fake ones...I call her out on those.....although I know there's been times where I've not actually seen her go and I can't tell looking at the pee pad if there's a new spot or not...and she's gotten a treat . ZoE potty trained very quickly and I haven't had an issue since the first week I got her. But, I love my wood floors & my rugs, so I'm willing to give treats for the rest of her life if it keeps her going potty in the designated place and saves my floors.

| Princess may be confusing the treats with her act of "kicking up the dirt" (it is sooo cute when they do that isn't it??? , I have a bull kicker too, lol), rather than the act of going potty on the pad. I think the best way to get her to make the connection is to treat/praise her right when she steps off the pad after going, which means you will have to see her doing it. and yes, they can be con artists (smart ones!) too, hehehe.

| My Cricket was a little con artist w pee pees. She would come get me as if she peed on her pad but there would be nothing on the pad. I would just laugh and say "you spoofed" and walk away w/o any treat. She would only get a treat if there was potty on the pad. I didn't scold her or anything, just no reward. As she got older, she would think it was funny when she did it. I would look, nothing there, say "you spoofed", and she would take off running away like "haha!"

| Gizmo is a con-artist with his potty bells. He figured those out really quickly. But, I take him out anyway and when he does go he gets praises all the way in. However, when I know I've just taken him out and he bosy slams the bells again, I call him out on it. Heh! Little stinkers!

| Awwww yes.......the yorkie version of being punked. Join the club. Brandi used to do it too. It took me a long time to figure out what was going on. The only reason I caught on was she was peeing too fast. She would run outside, squat and then come running to me for her treat. One day I was like "wait a minute, that was too fast". Check the ground.....no pee. That's when I knew that I had been punked. |

| hahahaha, this thread makes me smile and laugh. I don't remember the particulars but my 2 did the same thing. They also would go pee on the pad, come running for a treat and then go back and poo on the pad and come running again. They figured out that they got a treat for each act. lol They are smart little stinkers, aren't they. lol

| They are something else...I somehow knew I wouldn't be alone in this. I'd love to treat her immediately, but she's such a modest little lady she wont pee in front of me! If I'm heading to the bathroom & see that she is, too, I have to turn around & not make eye contact so she'll continue to go! Otherwise she'll christen my carpet, again. I'm hoping that since she wont be spayed again we will never, ever, ever have any set backs. Wishful thinking.

| Sooo funny and cute! I don't think I treated Uni at all during potty training. I only praised, so I never experienced any of this ghost peeing.

| They are such unique little personalities. ZoE is the opposite. She stares at me the whole time she's peeing to make sure I see it. If I'm not in the same room, she'll come get me and wants me to walk to her potty area to see her go. Maybe it's because I've refused to give treats for her ghost pees .
