I was wondering if its too early for me to start trying to find a good breeder and yorkie if I want to purchase one at the end of August?
I know most breeders dont sell them until 12 weeks. Should I try contacting breeders who have new born posts or should I wait til closer to August? I think Im getting puppy fever! I want one now, but I know I have to wait.

It is not too early to start looking. Sometimes it takes a while to find just the right breeder. 12 weeks is about 3 months...August is about right.

My experience with my breeder/friend was great. I saw the litter shortly after they were born. She let me come about once every week or so to see the puppies for a short time. I took pictures every time. When it came time to pick up Copper (11 weeks) and take him home, he knew me. Not only that, but my first night with him was not the nightmare everyone said to expect. He slept in a crate next to me and only wanted out to potty once in the night. I'm convinced that it was because he knew me.

I'm in the same boat!! LOL You should research research research so you won't make sure to steer clear of backyard breeders! I'm just looking around right now. I have talked to some breeders. One of the ones that I am interested won't have a litter until later so lots of waiting to do.

It's never too early to start your search. It's not an easy task for anyone to find the right breeder and yorkie puppy. I wish you the best.

It's never to early to start, one of the many signs of a good breeder is that they have a waiting list. So if you start now you may very well be right on target to get the pup. Also if you build a good relationship with your breeder, you may even be able to visit your pup before it comes home.

I purchased Harley right after his mom became pregnant. I went and helped her take care of Jazz (mom) a few times (I even took a bee sting so my baby's mom wouldn't get hurt :P) Then as soon as they were born she called me and told me I had second pick of the four pups, I named him, gave him his registered name too, and she let us come visit after he was 2 weeks old. I visited Harley enough that is got rid of the puppy fever. Her and I are now best friends, I often offer to help her with other litters etc.

So no don't be afraid to start, if you start now you'll find a breeder that you can share positive stories about. You have to buy the breeder for you buy the pup. When I handed over the deposit I did so much more than purchase or I guess "order" a dog. I bought into her family, I found a new group of friends (all her other clients) and felt very safe in my decision to buy a dog from her.

Agree with everyone- it is not too early at all. It can take a long time to find the perfect breeder- the more time you give yourself the better.

I would start looking now so you can get all the information. This way you can watch your baby grow after they are born. I did this with my Sassy. My boys doggie mama was pregnant and I decided I wanted a girl (had to convince the husband) so I named her "Miss Sassy Baby" and watched her progress from (day one - 12 weeks). Look now! Many pups are spoken for before they are even born, as breeders have waiting lists.

It takes time to schedule appointments to go meet breeders & parents.
My kids bought my puppy for me as a gift, and they spent a few months visiting breeders on the weekend before they finally found what they wanted, only to discover the breeder didn't like the idea of a puppy as a surprise gift, so requested that they talk to me first to be sure it's actually what I wanted. They came home from college the following weekend to talk to me about it and by the time they got back with the breeder all pups were already spoken for. My daughter was especially devastated. Then she got a voice mail later that day while in class, and the breeder decided to sell the female pup she had planned on keeping for herself. That is how I got my ZoE

Certainly not! My dogs have taken months of searching and waiting so if anything, I would say you are late in getting started! But good luck in your search and can't wait to hear about your new baby!

Definitely not too early. Give yourself plenty of time to check our potential breeders. Puppy fever can really take over but finding the right breeder help ensure a longer, happier life for your new addition. As well, as leaving more money to spoil them with instead of health bills.
