| My beautiful but oddly-coated furball! My Lucy's hair does NOT mat. I mean, EVER. I went on a two week road trip, leaving the dogs home with their daddy, and I can almost guarantee that he probably brushed her all of one time... Still, nothing! A few tangles, but no mats, and he left the harness on her almost the whole time (I fussed at him when I got home, no worries). AND she has the green eye shine. And her coat is thin, not thick like the cotton coats, and cool to the touch. BUT... I've seen a silky coat, and her's is nowhere near that shiny! So what's up? I feed her Orijen Regional Red, she has the Chris Christenson wooden pin brush, and I just started her on Missing Link Plus. So, what could it be? Is it possibly that she is still young (just over a year) and hasn't finished changing her texture, yet? She for sure is still changing colors. Or could it be the shampoo I use? It's an anti fungal shampoo I got from the vet when she had ringworm awhile ago, and I just use human conditioner. Could the anti fungal be damaging her coat? Or could the fact that she had chronic ear infections for awhile affect her coat in any way? I just wanted to get some thoughts/opinions, since all the signs point to a silky coat, minus the silky shine. |

| Not all silk shines the same...if it dull, I would chalk it up to medications and shampoo....use a finishing coat spray with a shine factor... Can you post pic's of her coat? |

| That sounds a lot like Tiki's coat was at one year. However, when I switched to Minksheen shampoo..... voila the beautiful sheen appeared. It has also continued to get more silky/shiny with age, and she is now 3. I also use a little of my Goldwell Kerasilk conditioner on her which makes her ultra silky. Your shampoo and conditioner may be dulling her hair, so a change might be good. Look in the grooming section of YorkieTalk for more suggestions.

Make sure she has access to water at all times. Also if you can use a conditioning rinse after shampoo; and no matter what shampoo you use, rinse, then rinse, then rinse some more. For theconditioner you can leave a bit in the coat after rinsing most off.

| Ask the vet if the ringworm shampoo is still needed...that will just about strip paint off walls..very harsh on hair. |

| Lucy's hair sounds like my ZoE's hair as her's never mats or tangles either. It's slow growing though...and I love long haired yorkies, so I'm trying to be patient. ZoE's doesn't have a great shine, but does have some shine, especially after her bath. But, a day or two before her weekly bath it does look duller....maybe its just dust & grime? My hair would look pretty cruddy is I only washed it once a week .

| I think that it would be great that your yorkie does not Matt or get tangled hair. Maybe the stuff used for treating ringworm is doing some damage? If she does not need to be treated anymore, then I would stop using it. Perhaps her coat will not be dull anymore.

| Oddly, I really don't have any pics of Lucy. But my BF will be home tonight, and he has a camera, so I'll snap some pics and try to post them then! Thank you for the advice so far! I'm going to switch Lucy to a gentler shampoo, as she hasn't had ringworm in months, and look into getting a finishing spray! I never really realized that that shampoo was so harsh! As for drinking water, Lucy drinks TONS! She used to be more of a normal drinker, but here lately she just can't seem to get enough. It's been really hot here (in the ninties every day), and we only have a tiny window unit in the apartment so far (looking to get another, tho, thank goodness!) so I guess that's why... |

Tiki's coloring is pretty similar to Lucy's, too! That whitish tan and lighter coloring! Although, Lucy has many darker patches on her back. Her silvery color is more underneath the top layer of her coat and on her legs... Kind of hard to explain. Did Tiki still have darker, stiffer hairs intermingled in her coat when she was a year? Lucy does right now, but they seem to be growing out (sooo slowly) and transitioning to like the rest of her coat. I've heard good things about Minksheen. I'm def going to do some research into some great shampoo! | |

| I think you might notice a change over the next few months with a good shampoo...anything that kills a parasite like ringworm has to have some very harsh chemicals in it to do the job....good luck |

Minksheen is not sold in stores, only direct from Touch of Mink company, and also from them via Amazon.com. I always hate paying the shipping, but believe me this shampoo sure makes a difference.

| The coats seem to change so much with age. Bella started out, as a little cotton ball. VERY cottony, but she never matted much. Now, she is turning silky, with just a cotton area on her back end. Her coat even as a cotton coat, was very shiny. I think there are just many different coat types out there. I bet your baby is going to be silky.
