Yorkie Talker | yorkie cuts We have a six month old female Yorkie, Matti We live most of the summer, at a lake. I have her groomed with her hair growing just about an inch below her belly. I wonder if I should short cut, for the summer, as she seems not to do well in this hot weather. We are on a boat and there is no air conditioning there, and she does like that when it runs. This is our first yorkie and although you can read all the books no one prepares you for the adventures they bring to your home. Just wondering what help you can give us for preparing for the summer months. |

| It's up to you! There is many different types of Yorkie cuts. We also spend a lot of time outside by a pool, lakes, rivers, etc, and he's constantly getting dirty so a short cut is the way to go for my big boy. This is right after a grooming (he was sitting funny... in his frog pose, LOL):

| Ziva just got her 2nd summer cut, I do it myself in steps so we can decide how short to go. I just clipped her body to 1/2" and trimmed the feet/ legs but left them a little fluffy, so she doesn't get the skinnyleg look. She laid right down on the cool tile to feel her belly! When Ziva was a puppy I kept her quite short so I didn't have to deal with matts, tangles, and long baths and comb outs. She was not good at sitting still! |

| Zhoie doesn't tolerate the heat well. She likes to sunbath a little but within a few minutes she heads right back to the door and the A/C, I would watch for dehydration in the heat. Here's how I keep Zhoie cut.

| Ziva overheats quite quickly in our hot weather. She can walk a quick mile from November to April but once the weather gets hot she is pretty much limited to a quick salamander chase on the side yard a few times a day. We take her swimming often to keep her exercised.Unless we cool the car off first she has a real hard time getting into it. A cold water bottle keeps her car seat cooler. |

| Both of mine did/do not tolerate heat well. They like air-conditioning!

| I have figured out pretty quickly that Mina doesn't like the heat. She will sit in the shade in the backyard and watch the other dogs sunbathe, she doesn't want to ruin her complexion. We are taking her on a weekend trip that will include a day of outdoor shopping (its called "first Monday" in Canton,TX). I have a doggie sling and will be shopping for a stroller while there. Ive put some time into deciding how to keep her as cool as possible. It will be in the 90's. |

| Monkey & Maddie do not tolerate our TX weather well either. They will both sit by the pool and sunbathe in the early morning but even then it is for only a minute or two before they are coming back over to me. I enjoy sitting outside on our covered patio with a book so I put up little misters to help keep the patio a tiny bit cooler. But even at that, my time outside is limited this time of year.

| Thank you! This cut is so easy, especially with her cotton coat.

Senior Yorkie Talker | hot! hot! hot! I live in the rio grande valley which is at the tip of texas and the weather gets really hot down here around 99 or more! So I take my bella early in the morning but since I try to take her out every two hours I have to take her in the afternoon when its really hot out. I let her off her leash so she can play a little but she does her buisness and runs to the door so I take it she rather be inside than out.
