| Worried about my Kelsey! :( Last night around 3am my baby was in her crate and we were all sound asleep and i woke up to her gasping for air and it sounded like she was trying to throw up! This lasted about 5 minutes. I tried getting some water and feeding it to her and she kept refusing. I went to see if there was any throw up in her crate and there was nothing that I could see, unless she ate it Anyway, so she came and laid with me in the bed so i rubbed her tummy and told her everything would be ok and she fell asleep. When I woke up for work she seemed fine. I took her outside and she went potty, her #2 was normal looking I was expecting diarreah. She's eating fine and drinking water... She seems fine now...I'm at work and my boyfriend is watching her for the day to make sure she's alright. What do you guys think happened? Im so worried about her!

| I don't really know what to say. It all sounds rather odd. You might ask the vet next time you're in about her trachea. You don't use a collar, do you? I suppose she could have been dreaming, got cold, or something else. Do you ever hear her cough occasionally?

| I don't think Kelsey has trachea they say with that dogs have a "goose-like honk" cough and that wasn't it. It was more of a throwing up sound...not a cough.

| Yeah moose does that sometimes too, and she did that kind of cough attack a while back, I describe it as an bad asthma attack, I rushed to the vet my dad drove cause I was so paniced, my vet told me not to worry but I'm not so sure I buy that, I would very much like to know what your vet says. Moose wears a harness so to protect her throat. Tell kelsey that her fellow yorkiepoo gives her kisses and lil bear and I agree with moose that we hope kelsey is ok.

hehe ok, kelsey likes the kisses! She's doing great now. Absolutly no sign of a cold, or anything! I think that maybe she just had something caught in her throat or something. It wasn't a cough...just a hairball or something! Im just glad it's not anything serious. She's doing great. Thanks everyone!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali had the same thing a few weeks back, she was sleeping on my bed and all of a sudden she made that retching noise that dogs do before throwing up. She did it for about a minute though it seemed longer, and I thought for sure she wa going to throw up, since my pom makes the same noise when she throws up, but it seemed like she swallowed it back down. She was fine afterwards and has never had the problem since. It definately is not trachea related as she has had a cough since I've had her and this was totaly different. |

| One of my older dogs (a Sheltie) has been doing that for years. Back in the day, I took him to the vets, and while he never did it in front of the vet, he was checked out and I was told not to worry. Since he's 13 and in good shape, I guess its not hurting him. If it keeps happening, let your vet check her out, though, so you can rest in peace.
