| Cows Milk and Yorkies I have been advised that I should give my 9 week old puppy skimmed milk mixed with water. Now I have had dogs all my life and I have never ever given them cows milk as I did understand it was not a good idea. My question to you guys out there is this.... Is it OK to feed my yorkie puppy skimmed cows milk ... Please don't just answer with a yes or no I would like to know the "Why" part as well so if you say yes it is then please tell me why and the same with any no answers.

| Not a great idea. Dogs tend to be a bit lactose intolerant. Some do fine with things like low fat cheese and yogurt, but cows milk can cause digestive upset and frequently does (Yorkie's especially tend to have sensative tummies too). Why was this suggested to you? For what purpose I mean? It's completely unecessary nutritionaly.

| No. A lot of dogs are lactose intolerant. This can lead to stomach upset and diarrhea which is especially dangerous in a small pup. Your pup has no need for cows milk whatsoever.

| Thank you so much for this as it confirms my understanding to be correct which will no doubt disappoint my good lady wife. The person who advised us was in fact the breeder and we have no idea as to why she said this but whilst in her house she did bring a bowl full in for her puppy litter and my puppy Raggs was one of them. I looked in horror when she did this and she saw the look on my face and said it was OK to do this and advised us to continue. When we collected Raggs I said to my good lady wife that there was no way on earth that I would feed a dog cows milk but I intended to verify this via this forum. Thank you all.

| I've heard of goat's milk being used to raise puppies (up until weening) on but never cow's milk...
