♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Just put in a doggy door Okay I have wanted one forever. I have a fenced in yard they can run into. Maddi figured it out very fast with treats of course (the cairn) But Lexi,Riley and Lily they are kind of scared of it. They will go in and out if I hold it up. And i have been using treats. Just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. I am sure in time they will get it figured out. Hopefully these three figure it out soon

♪♥ Jazi & Izi's Mom ♥♫ Donating Member | Such a cute picture of your fur babies. I have a Cairn too....and I"m sure she'd be the first to use the doggie door. My Jazi would be a little timid at first. I'm thinking of getting one though. Please keep us posted how the others do.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Your babies are beautiful! Personally....I can not LIVE without my doggie door! It is the best invention on the planet! And yes, I had a challenge to get Priscilla to use it also as she was afraid of it. After a couple of days...I gave up and hired a trainer to come to my house and "do it" for me. This is what she did...she put the leash on the harness, then she put the leash through the doggie door while I held her still, on the floor. She used treats and she said her secret was the amazing smell of her treats. She would call, coax with treats while pulling her through the door. She was successful in one hour. I'm sure I'll meet with opposition when I decribe this treat she made herself. 1/4 weiner 1/4 goose liver 1/4 provolone cheese 1/4 dog food that comes in a roll and you slice it. Can't remember the name. she made tiny little balls that were smaller than a petite pea and ask that I not feed her before she came to my house. Honestly, Priscilla acted like it was dog crack. |

thanks yes i used steak today. But the yorkies do like chicken better the leash thing is a great idea. I will try that. As long as i hold it up they will use it so i think it will take just a little coaxing. The flap when it hits the magnetic thing is scaring them the most i think

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | We had trouble when we first got a doggie door......so we tapped up the heavy flap and tapped a towel over the open and taught them to push past the towel.....about a day later we let the flap down, but tapped over the magnets so it was easier to push thru....then within a day or two more....everyone got comfortable with the flap (feel and noise). We currently have two new silkies in the house - one has been here before and remembered how to work the doggie door.....but the male is not sure at all...we are giving him a couple of days hoping he will follow someone out and figure it out.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Lexi has it figured out two down two to go. Riley and Lily are smaller so it may take a little longer. I do make them go in and out but I hold the flap for them. We will get there the towel is a good idea.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Your kiddos are adorable. Please keep in mind that if you have hawks, owls or other prey birds (or animals) in your area - then your babies shouldn't be out there alone. A prey bird can pick up a dog that weighs up to 13 pounds.

| When I put my doggy door in my yorkie would do the same thing...only go through when it was held up. So, I taped up the flap for a couple of hours; started out with one person on one side and another on the other side. Before we knew it she was flying through it on her own. Once she was use to that we let the flap down and she started going through. I hope this helps....good luck. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Doggie Doors... Best invention in the world. We use to have to leave the door to the dog run open. Problem there is the birds would come in the garage and nest, and do their business everywhere. It was nasty. So we put a door with a built in one in place of the door leading from the attached garage to the dog run last summer...Amazing!! Best purchase ever. All four dogs caught on in just an hours time. Was very impressed with them. No MOre Birds !

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thanks guys going to try some of these things tomorrow. The two little ones under 7 pds just seem scared of the noise of the magnet. Going to try some of your ideas

YT 2000 Club Member | We love the doggy door too, however, our biggest problem hasn't been the winged predators but the ground variety. Jasmine is a SNAKE hunter! She goes after any thing that moves. So, please watch out for your little ones if there are snakes around bc if they are like Jasmine they will try to kill them.

| I miss my doggy door sooo much! I had one in NJ (led directly to a covered chain link dog run in the yard so the babys were safe from birds etc) I can't have one in the Florida townhouse though... no private yard. The worst for me is getting them out first thing in the am. I don't do mornings well, and hate to rush to take them out! |
