YT Addict | Silkies vs. Yorkies. So I'm just wondering... what is the biggest difference between a yorkie and a silkie? I mean how do some of you with 8+ pound "yorkies" know they aren't "silkies" for those of yours that aren't registered with CanadianKC/AKC etc. Silkies weight average is 8-11lbs [obviously either breed will have bigger and smaller ones] I'm starting to wonder if Tikka is a silky or maybe a silkyXyorkie... she was sold to me as a Yorkie from a family that bought her as a Yorkie, and she fits the description except for her height and length. She is 11-12in long and 9in high. Also I noticed her muzzle is more rat like vs. teddy bear like. Which I guess Yorkies are technically supposed to be medium length, which I would say is NOT teddy bear... but most Yorkies now do have that teddy bear look lol I'm almost tempted to see if any nearby vets offer DNA tests just out of curiosity, I read another post about a lady that thought she got a yorkie but got a DNA test that showed it was silkyxs**tzu. there's a snap shot of her, she's 8 months old. there's more in my album here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...?albumid=12449

| she looks like a yorkie to me. Silkies have longer muzzles. She does have a teddy bear look. My chachi has more the fox like muzzle but he is yorkie also

| I also think she has a yorkie face. Doesn't look like a silky to me.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | I think she is a yorkie although my daughter has a silky and he could pass for a bigger yorkie. They are so similar. Great dogs either way. How is she doing with going potty outside?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Looks like a yorkie. Nikki, my rescue looks like he could have some silky in him but we will never know as he was found on the streets. He has a very long muzzle and huge ears. I think Nikki is probably a yorkie that is way off standard.

| She looks like a Yorkie to me. But then again, I see almost all Silky in Jackson and everyone tells me he looks just like an overgrown Yorkie. I still wonder myself. I actually contacted 6 AKC Silky breeders -- all, but one, told me he looked like a Silky for sure. He also is longer than he his tall, he's more muscular and solid, he's got a longer muzzle, etc. He's got pointy-er bigger ears than most Yorkies I've seen too. But Silky's are so rare, so odds are they're just badly bred Yorkies Not even badly bred all the time... sometimes Yorkies are just out of standard.

| I don't think she looks silkie. Her muzzle is not that long. I do agree her body is kinda long but she is just off standard like most yorkies.

YT Addict | thanks everyone... when I read "poorly bred" i used to always think "unhealthy/poor health" but on this form i think "off standard/wrong colouring/wrong hair texture/wrong size...etc" almost all yorkies do not fit the show/akc/canadiankc standard anymore especially looking around on here, mostly when it comes to color and size.... some of the little ones don't have the right colour, some of the one with the correct colour are too big, some are too big and incorrect colour... so i guess yeah, poorly bred as far as the standard goes... but my Tikka is healthy as a horse... she can eat like one too! she says thanks as well... lol i swear she knows when I'm on YT because she tries to put her face all up in the screen haha. @horsnaround... potty training is going great on the yard line, she even went potty on her leash while we took a walk... that was a first! no accidents in 3-4 days i'm so stinkin' happy!
