| Just One yorkie! I was talking to my hubby this morning about how I thought Bella needed a playmate, and I mentioned getting another yorkie... a male. He told me one is plenty, unless I want to breed them. I dont want to breed Bella! I just want her to have a little friend. Bella is getting fixed not this Thursday, but the Thursday after. I wish there is some way to talk my husband into letting me get the other baby without breeding them. |

No Longer a Member | Why would he want to breed them, if he doesn't want another yorkie then why would he want another 4-6? plus all the expenses that come along with breeding? Doesn't make any sense to me. It may be a while, but try talking him into bringing in a playmate just to be a playmate. |

| That is exactly my point. He thinks we can make money off the pups, but what if something goes wrong? what if she has to have a cesarian? She may be big for a yorkie, but she is small to me, and I dont want anything to happen to my baby. Plus she is so pretty. I want her to stay that way |

| When I contemplated getting a Yorkie I brought it up to my husband. He said his usual "we will see". I researched and researched. I spoke to every breeder in my State I believe all the while him saying "we will see". I had also contacted a Yorkie rescue group here. One of the girls I work with has Yorkies so I put the word out with her and just waited. I waited for a very long time. I never found a breeder I especially liked here in my area as most were breeding mixes and other breeds along with the Yorkies, or they called them tea cups, or wanted over 2,000 for pups. We decided to move and in the process of packing I get a phone call from my co-worker. She knows of a girl who bought a Yorkie from a BYB and CHANGED HER MIND!! (Don't even get me started on that!) and the breeder refused to take the pup back. At first I refused. I was moving and I really didn't want a pup from a BYB. We were also moving into a home that was owned by a friend. She rescues animals and the house had a resident cat and dog (Hera and Rudy) who we had agreed to take care of, so with 3 animals I figured my plate was FULL! She told me if she didn't find someone to take the Pup it would get placed in the paper and who knows who may get it. So I agreed to look at him. She brought him to me wrapped in a little blanket and it was love at first sight. Now remember I just agreed to see the pup not take the pup. Before I knew what was happening I had adopted Moshe. I was 100 percent unprepared. We had somethings because of our other Dog Bella, but I had to make a mad dash to Petscence! My husband must travel for his work so I called him and informed him that we had adopted a Yorkie pup. He just sighed. I figured he would bond with Moshe but I had no idea they would be as close as they are. When Avi is home all Moshe does is cuddle with him. My Husband thinks Moshe is the smartest Dog he has ever owned and is truly happy we have him. In fact we are really happy with all out fur kids. We feel blessed that we have these amazing animals that we care for and that love us back. My nights consist of watering, training, walking and feeding but I love every minute of it. So see....sometimes it is easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask permission.

YT 1000 Club Member | JD, Let me assure you, that having a companion for your Dog, is something special. There's a fellowship which they will experience (with each other) that no human can match. When bringing a new animal into your family, I've always said... Same Breed, Opposite Sex, and the new dog younger than the resident, where the older one can maintain it's seniority. Beyond the actual placement... One needs to be sure to give the resident a LOT of extra attention, where it won't think it's being replaced in your heart. That's a must do ! Now, about the Spay... You know that the procedure can be done in a very short period, only takes an hour or so, plus a short recovery time... AND, the scar is SO subtle, many don't even notice it. Any lethargy from the operation, is so similar to the occasional reaction from inoculations, one would hardly be able to tell the difference.

| I think I may be one of the few people who will tell you to leave it alone. To make a long story short, I brung a second dog home after my SO said one is enough and it was stressful on the relationship. He opted not to help with the animals anymore and it just went from bad to worse. If he's said one is enough and doesn't seem like he's budging, I wouldn't press the issue. I do understand where you are coming from with animal companionship etc but it's not worth arguing/fussing with your hubby over it.

| Hehe.....my hubby said the same thing. But we have had Jett now for 3+ months. He is very happy now that we have two of them. They are great companions and definitely best friends. Wherever Bella is Jett is. I just kept mentioning that Bella needed a friend. I would show him babies on the computer. Eventually he didn't say no anymore, but didn't REALLY say yes either. So I got one!! He got a little bit irked, but that only lasted a few minutes.

| When we decided to get our 2nd, I told dh he needed his own dog since Gypsy was my dog. He finally sd ok but only a chihuahua. He sd they are "redneck dogs". He has 2 sisters and a brother who all have them. Yes, redneck is a good term for his family. LOL. I agreed but for a long hair one. So we got Puff. For the others. I had my own money in an acct just for my purchases I wait till I had enough and sd I needed 1 more cause Puff and Gypsy did not really play together much. Seymour joined us soon after. Then i happened to see an ad on craigslist for a long hair chi. I asked if he would call about it. he sd no. I waited a couple of minutes and asked if I could call. He sighed and sd yes. It is all how you ask a question with him. We are now a family with 4 furbabies. He sd that was enough and I guess he is right.

| If your husband loves your dog and has bonded with her I would say go ahead and push the issue he may be afraid of the added responsibility but if he tends to ignore her and sees her as a thing or"your dog" then well maybe it would be too much stress on the household to bring another dog in. we do not know your husband so we cannot tell you what to do. Just listen to all the stories and see which seems most like your husband. my boyfriend is the very strong "No" until he sees a puppy that's how he ended up with his dog after we started dating.

| If your husband is just thinking about breeding hes not thinking of yorkies as pets and companions and it might be hard to get him to consider another one when hes in that frame of mind
