| People can be so unfeeling???? Sunday we went out to eat with a couple from church. This woman use to raise Great Danes so she is not exactly unlearned when it comes to dogs. When we started to leave I said Yes, we need to get home because we are having to keep Tina in her kennal when we are gone because I was afraid she would get hurt because of the dementian she is suffering. This woman just burst out laughing, so load people were looking. She said, Sandy she is just a dog. She will never know how bad that hurt. Why can't people be more sensitive to your feelings. If she chooses to look at it like that I would never do someone like that. My baby suffers everyday not knowing sometimes where she is. Where her food, water, bed are. We love our babies very much and for someone to do that hurt so much. I just told her, well she may have furr but she is still my baby. |

| wow.. what a un- called - for comment!! I am sorry that hurt you. Even if she did not understand she should have respect for your feelings and not laughed at you. Don't worry, what makes us all special is how we are different! We love our furbabies and if the rest of the world does not understand it is their loss. Maybe oneday she will understand!

| I am glad she is no longer a breeder if she thinks they are just dogs! I know exactly how you feel. I have rescheduled things and just flat out not gone to places in the past week or so since Riley came home because I was uncomfortable with how long I would be gone and he would be in his xpen. We have always been that way with our dogs even when they were older so it isn't just cause he is a puppy, he is our baby and I don't want him to wonder what happened to me. I will be more willing to be gone longer periods once he is older and I know he knows I will always return but still never think he is just a dog so I don't need to worry about how long I am gone!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The words "just" and "dog" should never be used in the same sentence. The lady probably could tell you are suffering, and instead of trying to be understanding, she fluffed off your problem, almost like you are silly for being worried and concerned. She's giving a great indication of what type of a friend she would be, if you want to go further in your friendship with this person, I would tell her how you're feeling, and maybe she'll accept your feelings, otherwise, I wouldn't waste any time on a friendship with her. Sorry you having a hard time with your baby, bless you for being such a good momma!

| I thinkin that this couple will not be on the "people to visit with" list anymore. We have a almost 15yr old male 1/2shepard & 1/2 huskey,he is suffering from the same thing,as well as his back hips going out, cataracs in both eyes. I know the day is coming when he wont be with us anymore, but he has been here most of my kids lives and is truely a part of the family. Such a gentle soul Im sorry that you had such a bad ending to a nice evening. |

| Wow... and this is a couple from church. Hypocritical, much? Ya know, it never fails that the people you should be able to count on most tend to be like this. I can't tell you how many times I meet people who end every e-mail, text, whatever with "God Bless" and then go on to be the most condescending, unkind people ever. Ugh, sorry just something that bugs me /end rant. I am sorry you had to hear a comment like that. It would really piss me off but I guess sometimes you have to got to let things slide.

| I'm sorry that the woman said that. Some people don't realize that what they say is insensitive and hurtful. Our dogs are our children and some people don't understand that. |

| That would definatly be my last dinner with her. Even if she does feel that way about dogs, it was still really mean for her to say that to you. I would probably never talk to someone again if they laughed in my face like that over anything

| How insensitive! I feel bad for all the dogs that are "just dogs" to their owners, not family members, even after all their years of companionship & devotion. Dogs don't get to chose the home or people they go to. Tina is very lucky to be a part of your family.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That was so insensitive. I have been dealing with Nikki's declining health, near blindness and dementia. I wonder if your "friend" realizes doggie dementia is a real diagnosis that they give medicine for. It is very sad to see your elderly baby look so confused, not knowing where they are etc. and worry they may walk off the bed or into a wall. Try not to let her upset you.

Or you could turn it back to her and say something like, " Yes, just a dog, just a human, whenever a pet or person in my care requires special treatment because of an illness or injury, I see that they get it, or whatever they need. I am shocked that you find this so strange! I always thought of you as a better person than that..." And, of course, say it loud enough for all to hear...

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I love this poem that a friend sent to me and it says it all JUST A DOG From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought aobut by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that its' not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man" or "just a woman." So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog," just smile, because they "just don't understand." ~Unknown Author~
