| Introducing Lab puppy to my two small yorkies Hi ya'll!! Haven't been on here in ages but you all are the first place I thought of when wondering how to ease my new Lab into the house with my two small dogs I have already. My boy Colt is 2 years old and 10 lbs... he is somewhat scared of other dogs, and my girl Marley is interested but doesn't want him ( the lab) to get near her. He is super mouthy so I am going to need to discourage that.. anyone here with yorkies and a big dog? I need help, I know they will get used to each other eventually, but I want to help the situation....

| We have a 135 pound Dog and 2 Yorkies, one almost 14, one that turned 5 months. All I can say is slowly introduce them, keep them seperated while you are not around, keep the big one on a leash and near you and do not let it run free until you are totally comfortable. A large dog can hurt a small dog playing, or even unintentionally, then again, so can a brother-in-law. The Lab is a large Puppy, and will play rough. That can also hurt your yorkies. No mouthing, no leaving them alone.....Best of luck. |

I never forget what is important to me. This, I will never forget. I can forgive, and would pull him out of the water if he was drowning, but if he needed a loan to keep his home, he would be living in tent city. | |

| I have an 80 lb. Akita, but roles where reversed here - Miya is 3 yrs old and we just got Alice. Lab puppies can be VERY hyper, as I'm sure you well know. He's going to want to play with your Yorkies like he did him litter mates which isn't a good idea since they're not nearly as "sturdy". You're really going to have to just do it gradually. Keep them 100% supervized but have them do things together - if you're teaching your lab to "sit", have your Yorkies sit on command for a treat too next to him.Walk them together (that may require 2 people at first), things like that to intergrate the lab into your "pack". Make sure the lab has a lot of excersise, and when he's tired and more mellow, let them have some supervized time together. In training with the lab, you can teach him "nice", we did it with our Akita. Put him in a "sit" but when you give the treat make him take it super gently out of your hand and say "nice". Another invaluable command Miya learned in puppy classes is "leave it". You put a toy or treat on the floor, have him on a leash, when he goes towards it, give the leash a little tug in the other direction and say "leave it" and walk away from it. Miya used to like to chase our cats when she was a puppy, so once she learned that command, we used it then and it worked great. That's a really good way to teach the lab how to play nice with your Yorkies, if he gets too rough, you can just say "leave it" and he'll learn to walk away (Miya actually practicaly jumps away from something when we give her that command lol). Good luck
