| grooming Question how old are our babies before they are calm enough to let you trim with scissors or shave? I cannot even get close to Ceeby to do anything like that. His ears are in bad need of a trim. I am afraid they will flop over and that is one reason I thought he was so cute. Erect ears. His bum needs a trim as well as his chin and pads. But at this point it seems hopeless for me to do it. Any suggestions? I posted this on another thread yesteday but got no answers, Thanks |

| I have been trying that with the clippers and he will sniff but if I pick them uip in my hand (or the scissors) he will run and hide. His ears and pads are really in need of a trim. Thanks for your reply. |

| I feel your pain. Shelby is 7 months old and I have been attempting this since I got her at 12 weeks! I tried everything to get her used to the trimmers but there is no way I would try getting scissors near her. I have trimmed her feet, bottom and ears 3 times now. It takes me about 3 days LOL The most successful way I can keep her semi still to do ears and feet is spreading honey on something. While she licks it off I trim away. to do her bottom I put on an attachment so it wasn't too short, them held up her tail and quickly got her. I wish she was more cooperative but I am not taking her to a groomer. too many horror stories. good luck. |

| I have always groomed my dogs....Lexi's Mommy is right on, I have done this w/ my pups and it seems to really help. It takes time so be patient! You can also by smaller palm sized clippers...I use these for touching up ears, rump and paw pads....they are usually quiet and if your baby seems to have a problem once you pick the clippers up this may help. Baiting food may also help. Either way, give a special treat after each clipper session, not the typical treat, something extra special, soon they will learn that it always comes after the trim. Like any training, be vigilant and patient, over time your baby will get used to the way you clip and will be a doll for you. Good luck!!

| grooming Thanks for the replies. I did get his chin hair clipped with scissiors. He loves to chew on my fingers so the other night I had them on the couch with me and Ceeby was on my chewing away with a wet chin from drinking. I had the chin clipped before he knew what happened. I am trying hard to be patient. it can't be that hard once they get used to it. But how do you trim the pads? Do you just run the clippers over the bottom or do you have to separate the toes and stuff? Thanks |

Had a heck of a time brushing her.. then i found out she does not fight me as much useing a comb. she has a thing though, she dont mind me doing her right side but hats having her left side done , for no aperant reason. I also use the CC system |

| My pups are used to clippers before they leave here. You got good advice about getting them used to the noise and distracting them with treats. I would also suggest that you do it on the kitchen counter were he can't get any traction to get away from you. Keep a firm grip, you don't want him diving off, and let him know you mean business. Reward with a cheerio and good luck! |
