YorkieTalk Newbie! | My baby was spayed yesterday. Hava a question What food my baby should be on now? Should I change her diet or continue with the one she have now? I heard that after spaying they put on weight and special diet is needed.... Do you guys know about it? Thank you! |

| You can use the same food, but she will use fewer calories. If this is a pup, I wouldn't be too concerned about her gaining weight just yet. Very few pups are truly overweight. Just watch and decrease as needed.

| There's no special food to give a spayed dog it's just that they are more prone to weight gain than an intact female because it will slightly decrease their metabolism. But, as Ellie May said, being a puppy she'll still need the extra calories for a while. Stick with the same food (if it's puppy formula you can decrease it but very slightly, unless of course she's currently on the thin side) and when she's ready to switch to an adult formula, start on the low end of the feeding guidines for her weight, and if need be adjust accordingly based on how she's doing weight-wise.

| No need to change food, that's a myth. Any creature that does nothing but eat and sleep with no exercise is going to get fat. I see one in the mirror every morning. |
