Donating YT Addict | I am the worst mom ever So, Bee went into heat & we were at my mom's & her 8 month old Havanese we didnt think could have sex yet & we were wrong, we thought he was too young so they did that & now I am worried about her having these puppies because he is 15 pounds & she is only 5 pounds, we called over 15 vets & all of them said that she will be fine. They have seen 5 pound dogs(females) have puppies with 25-30 pound dogs & be fine. I am taking her too the vet in a couple weeks so he can try & see how many there are so in a month or so. I asked about getting her fixed when I took her to Petsmart I went to the vet in there(without an appointment) I just asked the questions about it & he said that she will be fine giving birth & that putting her to sleep for the spay would be more dangerous because she is so small. I just feel like the worst Mommy ever I have been crying all week.

| You are not the worst Mom ever!!!!!!!!! You didn't think your Mom's dog was mature enough to be interested in your dog in heat. You can't beat yourself up over this. It's done. Now you have to prepare for Bee's babies. I know nothing about breeding and dog births but there are so many knowledgeable and experienced breeders here, that you can get so much information and advise from them. Good luck. Sending you both hugs! |

| Oh Bee I am so sorry to hear this happened. I would definitely check with some of the more experienced breeders here for recommendations. I know they are always concerned when the mom is smaller that the dad. Sending you big hugs and prayers for Bee's safety! PM Mardelin or Woggie man I know they are very knowledgeable and helpful. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/member.php?u=12370 or

| Aww no! You're a great mommy!! Everyone makes mistakes, its going to be alright! I'm sorry this happened but it was a mistake and you honestly did not know any better. Just take the necessary precautions needed to move forward and learn from this experience. You're a great mommy, I'm sure!

| Oh my! I am so sorry for sweet Bee! I know you love her so much. PLEASE seek the advice of the very experienced breeders like Woogieman and Mardelin before you make any firm decisions. Bee is so tiny....a 15 lb dog seems like a very big difference to me and I am very concerned for Bee.

| 5 pounds is so very small but I am pretty sure 5 pound dogs can be spayed. Maybe they were concerned about her being spayed and being pregnant and the extra strain on her body? Are you for sure is with pups? I wish you the best of luck take heart....

| Yes, my Peyton is only 3.5 lbs and was just under anesthesia today for about 45 minutes. I think the risks have to be weighed. The risk for anesthesia may be the lesser risk. I remember you posting about Bee acting different and you mentioned something about her going into heat, which meant that she wasn't spayed. I had a bad feeling when I read that. I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to offend you...you are such a sweet person. Now I really wish I had advised you then to have her spayed.

| I'm so sorry this had to happen. Dogs much smaller than 5 pounds are spayed every day however. I was very nervous as well (Sugar is only 3 pounds) My vet assured me that just the day before she spayed a 1.8 pound cat A 15 pound father's pups could very well be life threatening.....

| I would really consider finding a vet who will spay NOW- with a father so big- Bee could very well die during birth, she will very likely end up having to have an emergency c-section- so she will probably be experiencing surgery either way. I would not trust the vets at petsmart to vaccinate my dog let alone make decisions regarding a litter.

| Maybe you should get a second opinion? Vets are few and far between here and most are large animal vets...We were blessed to find our Dr. Williams... Anyway maybe you have more to chose from where you are? Maybe a vet that specializes in toys? If she could be spayed now and be spared the delivery the pros may weigh out the cons.

| Sweetie, you're not a bad mommy!!! We all know how much you love Bee! Things happen. I also think the breeders in the breeding section are much more educated to help you than I am. And I don't know how to say this nicely, but I'm not a huge fan of the Petsmart vets here by me. I'd want a second opinion from another vet. Also, i thought they had a morning after pill for pups too, but I might be mistaken. If you get her spayed now then there will be no puppies. And maybe just maybe the act didn't get her pregnant. As far as putting her to sleep for surgery, Bijou was 9 weeks old and 2.5 lbs and went through surgery for a broken back leg where she had a plate and screws put in to fix it, so she was under longer than necessary for a spay. So please ask around more before you decide. (((((Hugs)))))

I don't know how old your girl is.....if she is young her reproductive organs have not developed....these pups may very well be too large for her to pass vaginally.....a c-section will be in order, very expensive.....will she be able to produce enough milk to feed oversized dogs????? So much to consider. Accidents happen, but now it's up to you to do what your girl expects of you...take care of her, keep her safe. I hate to put another wrench into this.....but you will not be producing pure-bred dogs....if you should decide to take the responsibility and I hope you have homes for the pups. By the way.....boys can sire a litter as young as four months of age.... Think this over very carefully....you girl's life is at risk here and are you prepared to lose her and/or the litter.

| The risk of her having pups from that much larger male is alot greater than being put under aneshesia for a spay

| I agree with the others. A 5 pound little dog being mated with a much larger male , could present major problems during delievery. She might not be able to push out the puppies, and they could all die, even placing her at risk of death. I would not take the chance of this happening. It is more a risk to allow her to give birth then a spay. 5 pounds is not too small for spaying. Years ago my female cat was pregnant, before spaying, she was already showing a little, and I chose to have her spayed. Some vets charge a little more if the female is pregnant for a spay, or if the female is in heat. I am sorry about what occured , it was not intential. Accidental pregnancies happen . This does not mean you are a bad pet owner. A male dog can smell a female who is in heat miles away... That is why a male dog will wander off , to find some loving... I hope your female will be ok , this must be a hard choice to make.
