| Back to the Groomer; Chewing Gum is the Devil! We've had two chewing gum mishaps in a year's time. Aspen left her chewing gum laying around, and Khloe tried to chew it. I had to cut part of her beard off, and now we are resorting to a summer cut early. Wish us luck.

| Ugh, sorry! That sucks. I had a friend whose dog stepped in gum and it got all matted in her paw. Gum is a pain.

| I banned gum from my house too, but because of being afraid of them getting into surgarless gum. I never even considered them getting it in their hair!!! Bless your heart I know that has to be a mess. Good luck on the hair cut.

| Here she is. It isn't too bad; her little chin hair may take some time to grow back out, but overall I'm really happy with how it turned out.

| Oh my! Sugarless gum is extremely toxic to small dogs... Mine got stuck in a glue trap for roaches and had it all over him... feet, mouth, entire head actually. I had to use that mechanics orange cleanser... GoJo... I think, and then used Dawn to remove that bc it contains petroleum disstillates. I think gum can be removed after one applies ice to harden it.... or I'd try coconut oil, mayonaise (removes tar), I use Jif Peanut Butter to remove label glue... (just for future reference)

| Thanks. (: We've tried peanut butter in the past, but she's a little licker and she won't let it stay on long enough for the oil to absorb in the gum. I've also heard WD40, but I was scared of the chemicals absorbing in her skin (or in her mouth). I'll post another piccy when she recovers from the gum trauma she's experienced in her first year of life. lol. It may take another year to grow it out how I want. But on a side note, her groomer is amazing and very patient with all of her 'clients'. I'm very thankful for that.

Rio had some gum stuck to her face too when she was a puppy - I was able to scoop the gum out of her mouth but had to cut the gum out of her hair. What's gross is it was gum spit out by someone on the ground at the mall.

| I have a dumb question. I've never heard of sugarless gum being toxic to small dogs, so I'm glad you guys brought that up. We usually chew Juicy Fruit or the 5 pack of the colorful balls that come in a pack. Khloe should NEVER be exposed to it again since I passed household regulations (lol), but she was chewing the gum ball type that was also stuck in her beard. She's acting fine, but I wanted to make sure it is only sugarless gum. Also, I'm not trying to redirect this thread, but I'm seeking a cute end result for Khloe's hair (eventually). If you guys have pics of your furbabies or cute Yorkie hairstyles that you wouldn't mind posting, I'd appreciate it so very much. (:

| It's the xylitol that is toxic (and possibly fatal) to dogs. You can google it - but here's a link to start: Xylitol: Common Sugar Substitute Xylitol Can Be Deadly for Pets
