| flea help Bella doesn't go outside at all (she's litterbox trained) except for the once a week class she had at Petsmart (for 6 weeks). I think she may have picked up a couple of fleas there. I have seen 2 so far and she's very itchy. I'm not sure if she's itching the fleas or if she has dry skin. If she does have fleas, what the best way to get rid of them (hopefully its just this one time!) Thanks! |

| I use Advantix/Advantage. The faster you do something the faster it will go away. I'd call the vet and see what they recommend.

Wash her bedding and yours if she sleeps with you. Vacuum everything very thoroughly, daily at least until you are sure no fleas have fallen off especially on carpet. If necessary you can get a pill from the vet for a one time quick kill off of fleas, it is called Capstar, and is only good to kill off fleas already on her, for 24 hrs., not a preventative. Beyond that, if you need ongoing protection/prevention, some people use topical spot treatments like Frontline or Advantix, but I prefer pill form Comfortis. Depends on her age, and size. Good luck.

| Get a flea comb and brush her every so often while you are treating her for fleas. You will see little black dots on the comb until they are completely gone if she does have fleas. My adopted cat had them when I got him and we used the comb to tell how well his meds were doing. After a month or so he was flea free. Fleas will also feed on you, and thrive in carpet, so, make sure your house is not flea friendly. |
