| Collar? I have read about Collapsed Trachea and all and know that using a collar isn't good for using when hooked to a lead. But Jed is so tiny and he sneeks up on us all the time. Was wondering about getting him a collar with a bell so we know where he is. Already had a mild accident last night with him getting smacked in the eye with a foot. Do any of you have a collar on there yorkie? |

| I have a collar on my yorkie. He keeps it on all the time this is for identification purposes. I do have a harness for walking etc, but my yorkie often times will wiggle out of it. If your dog has a collapsed trachea it is advised that you get a harness for walking so there is no stress on the neck. But I always keep a collar on for id, rabies, microchip tags etc.

| I do have a harness for Jed when we go outside. Was just wanting the collar with the bell for locating purposes only. Just so we know where he is in the house. Little stinker is so quiet! |

| Collar Yes you can put a collar on him with a bell........... Just don't use it to hook a lease on it while walking him. If you can't find a collar small enough go to the ferrat section or cat section and get a collar from there. |

| I no longer use a collar, my Minnie had trachea irritation and I am pretty sure it was because of it. I just fastened her collar thru the loop on her harness for walking. Minnie does not go outside without us and is not free to roam the yard with all the mud we have in it. She goes on the puppy pad inside. BTW MInnie is on antibiotics because of the trachea irritation. |

| NEVER will I put a collar on my Yorkies...I don't really like collars period...I use harnesses with the ID tags on the D ring (where the leash attaches) it makes a jingly sound, I'd put a bell on a harness personally...collar also irritate their neck. Some ppl use a break away collar-yes they are safer...to hold tags/bells not for walking and yes a break away does prevent strangulation and chocking. Leave it loose.

| Hi there...I dont use collars on neither of my dogs. For my yorkie I use harness vests and harness dresses that I mostly make myself. If I buy a dress I add a D-ring to it . There are members on here too that sell beautiful harness dresses and vests. The reason I make my own is #1 I add buttons cuz I have found Velcro does not hold up under the pressure of the dog pulling and #2 cuz I line them with satin so they dont cause hair breakage.

| The collar that I was looking at was a break away collar. But the only collars that I have found with the little bell are cat collars. Was just thinking of buying both, and taking the bell off the cat collar and putting it on the toy break away collar. As I said before, I would only use this for location purposes. Location in the HOUSE that is. He will NEVER be outside by himself. We have to many hawks around. I am just wanting to have it on him so we always know where he is in the house so we don't accidently step on him. As I also said before, he is so quiet! He sneeks up on you and you just don't realize he is there. With the bell at least we would know he is close. |

| if you decide to use a collar on your little one, make sure that it is a breakaway collar. this way if he should get caught up on something, it will break away and he will not get caught on something. Chattiesmom on here has some of these, you can search her and she can help you. She has beautiful silk collars and harnesses.

| I only use a harness on Pixie. I have also attached her ID tag and rabies tag to the harness. Won't ever put a collar on her.

| Jedsmom - I do make silk collars with break-a-way buckles and I do have bells and would be glad to help you. To be honest, though, the break-a-ways only give a false sense of safety. The buckles that I have take a considerable amount of pressure to release. Bells hang down and can get stuck in numerous ways that we would never think of - floor vents, a loose string in the carpet, etc. and I honestly don't think a tiny could exert enough pressure to make the collar release without causing damage. The safest option for a bell is the "D" ring on a harness. |

| Corky wear one, But only for his tags. We use an harness to walk him. With those tags making noise keeping up with him will be impossible around the house. |

| I had a collar with a bell on my puppy when I first got her. One day I noticed the bell was gone. I couldn't find it anywhere. I even looked all over the yard. I called the vet and Calleigh had to go in for an x-ray. That was the end of the bell for me... I have a collar on Calleigh at all times. She has her ID and Microchip info on it. I always use a "harness" when walking her. I didn't know about collapsing trachea when I first got her. I'm so glad I found out about it.

YT 1000 Club Member | I have two Collars the both of mine wear (not at the same time though). Normal is a Flea Collar with a set of Bells on each of them. We have a lot of transient animals coming thru our yard, just extra protection. When I take them/either out, I put their "Formal" Collar on, which has all the ID and other Tags on it. I NEVER hook a Leash to either of the Collars, and use a Harness when walking or for security in the Car.

| Mine wears and collar with her rabies tag and a tag with her name and my cell number on it. I love the fact that it jingles when she moves so I can hear where she is.
