| So many rude people! or is it just me?? Hi everyone I have come here for a little bit of a rant... i know you yorkie lovers will understand! My feelings have been hurt today . Me and OH went to carbooty and we took Poppy as it was really sunny and she loves meeting all the diff dogs. We got there and Poppy loved being outside among everyone as she was getting A LOT of attention as she is only 3 lbs and with her sexy top knot and little poka dot harness she was looking a right CUTIE, i was so proud!!! Anyway most of the carbooty was inside and it was packed full of people so i thought it would be best if i picked Poppy up as she is so tiny she would have got stepped on. She's such a good girl and always sits nicely in my arms as i kiss her head. This woman was also holding a yorkie bigger than poppy and she came over to say hello and so they can meet. Poppy didnt like going near the other dog and was backing away so i asked if i could stroke her dog and asked his name and she told me off telling me HER dog was a SHE called Gorgina and she gets the hair cut short because dogs so small SHOULDNT have long hair because it gets knotted and that she took her dog to the groomers to get the hair cut!! I didnt mean to offend her i just asumed it was a little boy because it had a blue collar on not because the hair was short. I told her i also take poppy to the groomers and that i brush her twise a day to keep her knott free. Should i really have needed to explain myself to her? A little further on a chinese woman came running up to me and she didnt speak very good english asking me where i got my puppy from. I laughed telling her she was over 9months old now and that i got her from an advert out of a paper but that was not recommended and she should find a breeder. She asked how much i payed for her which i thought was REALLY rude but i felt like i had to answer and when i said £500 she was like OHhh i would never pay that much for a puppy. How dare she tell me how much i should have paid for Poppy. My Poppy is priceless hurt my feelings. So off we went again walking around the boot sale and this woman pointed at Poppy laughing and shouted ''OMG ITS A RAT'' she was really laughing and even her husband turned and said ''dont call her dog that''. People was looking and i was really hurt and upset. I kissed Poppys head and told her that the woman was probs jealous! Even my OH was shocked and angry. We just walked off Then i was waiting for OH to get something and this man came up and asked how much to buy Poppy???!!! I told him she was priceless and he looked at me strange and walked off. THEN i we was outside and Poppy was on the floor and this big dog came over and i picked Poppy up as i was scared. It was a pitbull or something like that and the man mummbled something like he was angry at me for picking Poppy up. The dog was pulling towards Poppy like it wanted to eat her, it wasnt a happy hello pull so i dunno why he was so upset. I didnt mean to hurt his feelings but i needed to protect my baby, right? Is it just me over reacting but i feel really hurt and like i subjected Poppy to all this today. I think she loved alot of the attention tho even if some was negitive. Where do people get off being so rude about my little baby girl. Its likes me going up to a mother and calling her child a name its not right and its defo not ok.... well thats how i feel. What do u lot think? xxxxx

| I agree with you completely. I would have had to really bite my tongue when it came to the lady that called Poppy a rat! The lady with the female pup and no top knot, she probably just took out her own frustrations on you. If she wanted people to know it was a girl, maybe she should have put on a dress or something pink then! As for the guy with the big dog, its been my experience that SOME big dog owners just don't have the same thought process we have. They don't have to worry about protecting their dog like we do. Don't give those people a second thought...give Poppy some extra hugs and kisses today. I bet all she remembers about today is how much fun she had out with he momma!

| Sorry you had a bad day.. but you did the right thing not to be rude right back!!! It is hard, but I have found "kill them with kindness" works .. well at least some of the time I alos agree that the lady with the "topknotless" pup was taking her frustration out on you... that doesn't mean it is ok.. but if you understand it helps. The "rat" lady is a jerk. She thought she was being funny but she wasn't. I have had people say things like that to me, I always come back with .."oh but she is my beautiful rat" and walk away. Some really don't mean harm.. and if it is only words don't let it get to you. The big dog, well he may have felt you were insulting his dog? I do the same, I pick my little one up or put my body between a large dog and my other pups... and I say "oh no.... don't want them to be lunch" or something light. It was cute to read your post... even if you were upset... because the terms and names you used were so different then here !!!! Give your furkid hugs and kisses!!

| Why does this place allow pitbulls and yorkies in the same area? It's just one big open space for all dogs? Try to find a park with smaller dogs sectioned off. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Having a yorkie is a little like being a celebrity, you get lots of attention, but some of it isn't good. I take Joey many places, but there's always much more to deal with when I take him. You sound like you know how to handle yourself, and your first priority should always be protecting your dog. Picking her up was a good idea, even if it offended someone else; you have no way of knowing, if the dog is truly gentle. Good things our babies don't understand words that well, I doubt if they'd like being called a rat, but size-wise they are close, I guess, haven’t really seen any rats, except in the lab. Anyway, it sounds like Poppy had a wonderful day, and she's really adorable, so I can understand why she receives so much attention.

| Aw thanks everyone u have cheered both me and Poppy up. We still had a lovely day we walked down the river later that day and sat ouside in the sun and when we got home Poppy helped me with my housework like chewing the mop and making sure she barked at the hoover LOL. We do not have dog parks where i live its just a local river park where all dog owners go. Its a small market town and most people own big dogs on farms etc... which is fine me and poppy normally walk where its quiet. Total really opened my eyes at how many people can be kinda crule. Poppy looked so sassy and cute today i couldnt stop kissing her i dunno how anyone could have called her a rat altho she is black and only 3 lbs LOL but still. Thank you everyone for your kind kind replys... thank you xxxx

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I think you need to find a better group. I've run into individuals like that before but NEVER so many in one place. Their behavior was deplorable. Socialization is great for Yorkies, but just as Poppy needs to be able to trust the dogs she meets, you need to trust the people you meet. You might consider slowly building up a network of dog owners who are fun to be around for both you and Poppy, then set up your own, smaller meetups. As for how to respond to rudeness, the best thing you can do is ignore them. Engaging them is like wrestling with pigs. Everybody gets dirty, and the pigs like it!

OP, don't worry about all the rudeness. The one hat really bothered me was the lady with he girl yorkie. On my experience, most people can't tell if a pup is a boy or a girl just by looking. Kaji has been mistaken for a girl too many tomes to count! When hey ask what my little girl's name is, I simply smile and answer, "His name is Kaji and he loves the ladies!"

| Don't feel bad there are a bunch of idiots running around the world and you're bound to run into some from time to time. I wouldn't waste my time agonizing over them. When we brought Oliver our baby shih tzu to the vet on Friday someone made a remark how fat he was. I told her maybe if you fed your dog she wouldn't look like a concentration camp reject. She had the skinny big dog and you could see his ribs. |
