| Bed time blues I have had my two year old baby girl for about a month now and we are getting alone wonderfully. She is getting along great with our 5 yr Maltese Blondie and all seems to be going well. I do however have one concern. Taffie will not sleep anywhere but with me (which I love) and not only in my bed but right beside me as close as she can get. I don't mind but I am worried. I am very over weight and to tell the truth I am scared that I might roll over in my sleep and crush her. I am really concerned should I insist she sleep in her own bed or not? |

| Boy, that's a tough call! Do you think that if you rolled over on her it would wake you up, or is she very tiny? If she's 4 pounds or less, then maybe you should put her a crate on a chair right beside your bed.

| Both of our yorkies sleep with us. One is about 9lbs (Kayla) and Dudley is going on 2 and weighs 4lbs. I have been concerned more for Dudley, so I know what you mean. Its funny though, because he really watches and when my me or my husband move or turn over in bed he growls. Its cute, but he lets us know, hey I'm here. She will learn to watch and get out of the way. I think I had rather have them sleeping up close to me than at my feet. I sure would not want to kick them off the bed. lol!!! Congradulations on your new baby too. |

YT 1000 Club Member | TaffieT, The same thoughts have haunted me, I couldn't forgive myself, if I were to injure either of mine in any way. Both of mine are as yours, close as they can get, but, I think I have gotten both of them "trained" to react to a dangerous situation like that. Simply put, I occasionally pretend to sleep, let them settle in, wait, and then roll over on one of them (suddenly BUT carefully and not to hurt them). But, I really give them a good "squeeze". This works ! Now, heads come up and are very aware of their jeopardy, the instant I even move a little, and jump out of the way, when they see that they are going to be squeezed or "kicked" by leg motion. I sorta feel bad about intentionally disturbing their sleep, but, better that than the alternative. Give this (training) a try, and test them frequently. Have a good Day ! S.W.

No Longer a Member | How light of a sleeper are you? I get woken up by the lightest of noises, so Rizzo easily wakes me up if I start to roll onto him. He doesn't make a noise, but he starts to kick me when I start shifting around (probably cause I'm disturbing his sleep, lol) But he's also learned that if he catches me while I'm sleeping on my back he can burrow on the blanket between my legs pinning me in place, lol. I guess that's how he's trained me to not move around. Good luck training her...you could try a small doggy bed to put next to you to see if she'll sleep on that right next to you instead? |

| My 12 week old yorkie pup has slept in my bed since she was 7 weeks old. She sleeps up by my shoulder & snuggles her face into my neck. If she slept lower down the bed, I'd be concerned I'd roll on her in my sleep.

| I'd be more concerned as to what she's doing when you're asleep. We use crates for night sleeping...they've learned to like the crates and look forward to going to bed every night. They need a break too. A quiet place undisturbed --- plus they are safe. No getting out and chewing on cords and other mischief when you're asleep.

| I felt really strong about crating mine at night. I found that moving the kennel by my bed helped a great deal. Tia's kennel was on top of Ally's. Then the end of October, my mil passed away and both DID NOT want to go upstairs to their kennels. I carried them one at a time, both of them shaking in fear the whole time. Ally even cried a little. We don't know why because my mil was only here for two weeks before she passed. It made me so concerned, I purchased an Arms Reach Mini Co-sleeper and now they sleep right beside me like a baby. I was concerned to put them in the bed with us at night too. Ally sleeps so close to me also and I was afraid to move. She is two years old and slightly over 3 lbs. Neither one of us sleeps when she gets into bed with us. I feel like a crazy-woman, putting them in a bassinet, but it's working great. They will now go upstairs on their own and wait for me to put them in their bed. |

| I've never had a tiny dog, Jackson is the smallest at 16lbs, but we've always slept in bed with our dogs. My dad sleeps with his current dogs and did with my childhood dogs growing up, my closest friends have their dogs in their bed, my mom, my aunt, my uncles, the list goes on and on. I know very few people whose dogs don't sleep in their humans beds, LOL. So it was always normal to me. We've never had any issues! I wouldn't have it any other way. I love Jackson sleeping with me. Dogs are smart and most will move out of the way. I know if I am moving too much, Jackson will move over or hop off the bed.
