| Paying Full Attention to New Puppy? Is it okay to not pay full attention to my new puppy? Like as far as playing goes? Is it okay to let her play by herself a lot? |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | well, you do want to make sure you bond, A LOT! Also, yorkies are very social, and they want nothing more than to be with their owner (or if they are left alone for long periods of time you could get another doggie) once in a while, yes, but a lot....especially with a new puppy...it doesn't sound like the best idea. you also want to make sure you can supervise her, because these little babies like to eat anything they can get their teeth on, lol!

| Oh my, I'm not sure what you are asking. Could you please make your question more clear. Yorkies need LOTS of attention, at all times. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I know she was a gift, but were you ready for her?

| In your other post you were saying that she doesn't like to lay with you and you thought that she didn't like you.. Well if you are not playing with her or bonding with her then she won't care to be around you.. You need to spend lots of time with her.. When I first got Tucker, he was very independent.. I started playing with him alllllllllllll the time and taking him everywhere I go and now, 6 weeks later, he is all about mama.. He will not even eat unless he can see me at the same time... They desperately need that bonding and security when they are puppies...And when they are adults as well but really important as they are developing... If you do not have the time or interest in her, then it would be best if you considered finding her someone who does.... |

Or let her lay around while I'm on the computer. I'm not neglecting my puppy, and to the one who said you knew she was a gift and asked if I was ready for her, yes, I was. I am. Thank you.

| attention I hold Brandy while I'm on the computer. Most of the time she falls asleep right away and her head flops over. It's too cute. I love that she lets me hold her like a baby. To me if a dog lays on it's back and esspecially lets you cradel it, she loves you and trusts you. |

| Yes, I think it's more than OK for puppies to play by themselves. They're just exploring their new world and they're very curious. . |

I play ALOT with Joey, take him for walks, talk him to puppy classes, teach him tricks, let him nap in my lap when he chooses. BUT, I also encourage him to play by himself. I don't want a dog who is dependent on me every minute of every day. I don't want a dog who demands attention. Ask for? yes. Demand? no. I want to eat in peace and visit with company without him demanding attention. I want him to entertain himself while I cook and do my other chores. So, when I see him happily playing alone, I mark it with a "Good boy, Joey".

| I think that it is fine if they want to play alone to let them ...sometime Dollar wants to chew the bone. but then other times he has to be right next to me.

I agree with FirstYorkie! I think when I get a puppy, I would want to hold him 24/7. But I think it is important to teach him how to be independent too... So good advice!

| Yes it is OK to let them play on their own. Loki loves to chew but only some things so we have gone through a million bones and chew toys and he has a few that he loves and he will curl up with while we are watching TV or whatever. I still feel like I am paying attention to him though, since I like to know where he is. We have a small house and if he is upstairs or something when I am not he is most likely getting in trouble. Also, when they are puppies it is important to keep them in your sight because of housetraining. It's also OK to put them in their crate for a short period of time if you cannot watch them. I used to do this while cooking, cleaning with chemicals, showering, etc. Now Loki has learned to stay out of the kitchen or get stepped on! and he has stopped attacking the vacuum. Still, if I am home alone I put him in his crate if I shower, leave the house, or do anything where I can't watch him. Alone time is OK as long as they have toys to play with. Loki will mostly sleep in his crate if I put him in there. It's safer and gives them less opportunity for mistakes in housetraining. All yorkie puppies are handfuls. Oh, and Loki is NOT a snuggler BUT he likes to be able to see one of us and he will tolerate snuggling when he is cold or tired. Loki sleeps with me and he has to be touching me at all times (unless he is hot). I usually get a foot in my face or he will stretch out along my back. He's wierd :-)

| I think it's IMPORTANT that puppies learn to play alone sometimes. We can't always be at their beck and call. Plus, it doesn't seem psychologically healthy for the dog or for the person to have a dog be completely dependent on a person for the dog's 24/7 entertainment. Also sometimes dogs just have dog interests they want to pursue. How fascinated can you get with nylon chew bone? I like watching the birds at the bird feeder, but there's a limit to my interest in it. Autumn leaves are fun, but when I've chased one, I feel like I've chased them all. It's nice to hear the squeak of a squeak toy once, but around about the ten thousandth time, my interest has waned. But a dog can give his FULL attention for a long time to any of these things. |

Sorry I didn't want you to take it the wrong way. But I did remember this post. And you said you were giving up on her soon. I think you all just need to bond. She will need lots of one on one, but playing by herself at times is OK too. I just don't want you to give up on having a very cute furbaby. Autumn won't stop biting! She didn't do this before, so I'm worrying she won't stop the habit. She's a puppy still, but I worry that she won't end this. You can go to pet her sometimes and she'll just go to bite you. I wish she would stop. A little bit ago she got a hold of my finger and wouldn't let go. I had to pull my finger to get it from her. She also has selective hearing... BAD. Especially when she gets wired up. She WILL NOT answer to no and WILL NOT answer to her name. I'm giving up on her soon = [ __________________
