| HELP !! our dogs and puppies need you Since Congress is talking about puppy mills at the present time; I would urge you to write your congressman via the attached and tell them how you feel and if you feel you have a way that you think could be fair to all, pls tell them. If you are not in it for the solution it would be good to tell them some- thing has to be done and I know it will help. http://www.house.gov/writerep

they don't need the 4-digit zip - just your regular one - hit continue and it will talk you to the letter page Here is mine to the Texas Rep... Dear Al Green: When is our country going to HELP all the animals living tortured and abused and neglected in Puppy Mills by people who profit off the mass sales of live dogs ? IF the Sale of live Animals is stopped in Pet Stores.... then Puppy Mills will slow down on the awful mass breeding that goes on to supply these stores with puppies. You are letting dogs suffer daily and doing nothing to stop it ? Hunte Corp is the biggest Broker in the country.... yet they let thousands of dogs suffer and die each year in transport.... Can someone speak for those who can't ? Is our country so heartless that we let dogs live in cages without medical attention for PROFIT ? What is wrong with this country ? This needs to be stopped. IF ONE person in the government would take a tour of a REAL Puppy Mill they would be so sick they would act on it - Can you PLEASE find the time to address this issue ? We are letting millions of dogs live a life of hell when we still have Puppy Mills operating in every state. Sincerely... Villette in Houston (and no I am NOT a Peta fanatic) | |

| Great letter Villette! I know people probably think that this is a waste of time as they don't read our letters but I know from past experience it does help! From a grass roots effort it was passed to no longer slaughter the American Mustang for export for food. It is hard for me to believe that we were allowing these beautiful horses to be captured and slaughtered for food for countries that ate horses but we were. Please everyone we have the power to change what is going on in these puppymills but we have to let them know. You don't have to be an excellent letter writer if that is what is keeping you from making your feelings know but you do need to be respectful. Please just ask them kindly to have compassion for these animals. Please take the time to let your senator and congressmen know how you feel about this national disgrace. Cindy & The Gang |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I KNOW for a FACT that letters help ...one day... I can post about how much it DOES help with a personal experience to share with you.... but I can't talk about it right now due to the legal issues..... When I CAN post about it - it's GREAT news. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!! I promise - we really can. |

| I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Best Friends organization in Utah, www.bestfriends.com but they are an animal rescue with over 1500 animals on any given day and have done great work with educating the public about animal welfare. They were one of the few organizations allowed into New Orleans (and are still there) who were very instrumental in saving many animals following Hurricane Katrina. This weeks forum is on specific breed rescue but I thought people should know how these puppy millers think Comment from Sue about taking rescues from breeders: We take dogs into rescue from a miller (someone who runs a puppy mill) that dumps dogs a couple times a year. Some of the young ones do show genetic issues from luxating patellas to malformed hip joints. When this was brought up to the miller, in hopes they would at least stop breeding the dogs that carry the bad genes, we were simply told to destroy any of the dogs we took that had a problem. At least we are altering the dogs before placement so they can't reproduce, but the miller had no interest stopping the problems from happening on their end, and if they had, their solution would have been to simply kill the dogs. So, this is a comment in reference to the discussion of breeders checking the puppies hips, etc at an early age and they could be easily treated at that point. Some breeders (as in the mass producers - the one I'm referring to has at least 250 dogs) just don't care what genetic flaws they are pumping out but as a rescue, I am still thankful that they release the unwanted dogs instead of selling to another miller or killing them.
