| week 4 with my rescue Savannah Its been a wonderful 4 weeks with my little angel in my life. She sure keeps me hopping and this week she learned. 1. mommy doesn't care if she has to sit on the bottom of the stairs near the front door so I don't poop near the front door she will do that ..and I will use my potty pad like a good girl. 2. My brother is a softie and even though he's over 6'2" he's pretty sloppy if you hear him hit the kitchen ..run fast in that direction and help him clean up before mommy see's it. If he doesn't spill he'll give me a cheerio anyway. 3. Grandchildren esp those around the 2 year old age are easy targets to steal crackers from...actually he didn't mind he gave it to me and kept saying awww puppy and gave me belly rubs while he watched some crazy puppet things on the tv...he didn't share that funny looking cup thing though. 4. I have to be nice to the fuzzy looking pom dog my mom calls cassie bear even though she belongs to my sister and mom babysits her when she has a long work day. It wasn't so bad this time it only took one low firm no and she put me on the floor to show me it was not ok to do that while on moms lap and sometimes I have to share. 5. Its fun to have the pom around if you think you hear a noise and bark like two madwomen running for the front door for 8+ hours on and off. Savannah also has really started wagging her tail and has a big love for pupperoni's the only treat so far other than a cheerio she has liked. I feel so blessed this week it was my birthday monday and I got to see 4 of the kids and my grandson. It was hard to explain to my grandson at his young age about binky not being with us anymore. Savannah saved us though he got totally distracted since she is so tiny and that she wanted to be his buddy...she was so excited to see someone closer to her own size. he knew the same rules as with binky and gosh when he sat down she was kissing him until he begged for mercy. |

| It's going to be so much fun to follow Savannah's progress and I think a lot of people will learn some very good things about rescues. Savannah has made a lot of progress and the fact that she is so good to a two-year-old shows wonderful promise for the rest of her life.

| I was able to load her walking for the first time on her flexi leash video and hope it works. forgive my crazy talk but you'll all understand. My family lives in Canada so I have to post my videos of her. I didn't get many this week my 16gb card cracked but I was able to pull everything off it and will be getting my new card tomorrow. Thanks everyone My mom called me today and wanted to know how her baby was and wanted to know if my girls got that crazy woman locked up...she needed to be for locking this little one up and being so cruel. My mom turned 80 last summer but the highlight of her day was hearing Savannah barking today like a madwoman when my son went out the door. |

| That was so cute! Savannah is just adorable. That was so cute at the end, when she turned around and looked at you.

If I went to walk around the house she'd want me to constantly pick her up and carry her. Even kitchen sounds would send her off the deepend the first week or so. Crazy as this sounds when I'd finish preparing even bread for the bread machine I'd show her then push the button and that sound it makes kneading etc...she was off to the familyroom like a bolt of lightening. After bread came out I showed her let her see it cooling and then the electric knife was the demon when I cut it down. I went and got her and showed her the bread again and gave her a taste now she knows about the bread machine and the wonderful things it makes and actually gets excited if she see's me measuring flour..I buy big 25lb bags of it and its tucked on the other side of the kitchen. The same thing goes with the coffee maker and when I make tea she now knows those sounds are ok. Pretty much you have to think of it as starting with a brand new puppy where everything is brand new and scary for them. I did the same thing I did with my binky with the potty pads i put her on it if she made a mistake and its truly only been a few. I'd softy say no we don't make here then take her put her on the pad and tell her we make good girl here. They no by even soft tones that you didn't like something and they truly like to please so they do eventually get what you expect of them. I just keep an eye on her constantly and its not so hard since she stays by me most of the time. I've had to also correct her and Paul was very upset that day my daughter brought her pom over and she was not wanting that pom near me. He was wanting to take her downstairs to his radio room and I told him no she's not going to regress if I tell her gentle No..and put her on the floor off my lap as many times as it takes to teach her ...she can't do that on my lap. It truly can add to more issues where she would then start growling at anyone who came near me after a while. We actually watched a few shows with cesar millan the dog whisperer on this type of behavior. It worked because my daughters pom was with us one day this week while my daughter worked...it only took one no and putting her on the floor for her to stop showing teeth and growling at the pom. she actually let her sit with me as well and the milestone all the activity outside plowing etc...actually played with the pom barking at the intruders. I lost count of how many times one would bark then they'd both start and bolt to the front door..funny though my daughters pom lets savannah go first like she did with my binky. It just takes a lot of patience and I dont' mind at all giving you any advice you need. This is the 2nd rescue I've had and the first one we just got they had a baby and couldn't care for their yorkies and my dad told mom and I we could take them. It turns out this guy beat them for barking and was so bad to them we had to separate the male and female..he actually went into defense mode and would coral all the dogs in front of him and it was so sad. My aunt took him but it took us 7 months to get little Sally to come out from behind something when we came home. Sally learned to trust our family and anyone who came around a lot it took her time but she never ever would let a stranger on the street touch her. Savannah still cowers when she wants to be picked up but its getting better and she doesn't curl herself up as much or move away. She did have the little dribbles the first week or so with everyone but that has stopped now when we pick her up. It takes a lot of patience and sometimes one step forward two steps back but you can do this too. You just have to always remember they sometimes never get over certain issues esp when it comes to new people. I say I can't blame them imagine trusting over and over again only to get badly treated. I need to get a new card for my camera this weekend but I will try to make a video of me playing with her which is working on her getting used to not all hands coming at you are bad hands. | |
