| Foods that puppies can and cannot have... I suppose I'm checking the info I received from the breeder I bought Hercules from. She told me that he can have people food. She said that veggies and fruit and meat were important to add to his diet as well as his dry food. I bought the Beneful Prepared meals that have real meat and vegetables but I was wondering about the fruit. I gave Hercules a piece of pear and he loved it, but is it healthy for him? I don't want to keep giving him anything that will hurt him. I suppose my issue is that I have always been told that people food is bad for dogs. Thanks for any help.

| Because of the extra added fiber and pectin, you want to make sure your dog doesn't over-do eating the pears. It can cause diearhea or an upset stomach Found this for you and I hope it helps! |

| People food is not bad. Most table scraps (fully of fat, salt, etc.) are. There are lots of lists online of foods they should not have. Yorkie puppies can be extremely picky eaters, and if they are given these foods, they may be less likely to want their dog food (leading to potential hypoglycemia). So IMO a Yorkie puppy who does eat its food well should not be given other things until they get a bit older. That way if they decide to get picky and stop eating their regular food, hypoglycemia is less of a worry.

| People food is for people. Dog food is formulated with the nutrients necessary for dogs. Plus yorkies can get pancreatis so you have to be careful what people food you give them. Fruits, vegetables or a little boiled chicken breast as a treat is fine but it shouldnt be a meal because you would need to be balancing it with vitamins and minerals that dogs need

I totally agree with this. Oliver ate his kibble pretty well as a pup, although he was very picky when I switched it as to what he would eat. He recently got neutered and had 16 baby teeth pulled so I had to switch to some wet food....well now I'm trying to get him back on kibble and he hates it! I can't even imagine feeding him people food all the time, he'd throw a tantrum!

I feed Jackson "people food" all the time but it's always chicken, or meat, or green beans, cheese, yogurt, things like that. And he still eats his dog food meals, those are just added extras!

| The last time my Yorkie girls ate commercial food was at the breeders. Since I got them they have only eaten "real" food and have never had a sick day in their lives. The reasons are all over the internet why commercial pet food is so dangerous. | Thank you all for the advice. I think I'll stick with his complete meals. He seems to like them and I will give him some fruit now and then.
