| First Haircut Trauma My 6 month old boy yorkie went for his first haircut last Thursday. This Groomer was recommended to me by the breeder. When I dropped him off I explained what I wanted done with a picture. (puppy cut) When he was dropped off he was black and brown. An absolutley adorable little boy. When I picked him up from the Groomers he had is body legs and ears shaved and his face trimmed very short. (not like the pictured I showed) I was very disappointed with the cut but I realize his hair will grow back eventually. I was however very sad that he was no longer a black with brown markings pup. He is now grey with light brown. He looks like he aged 10 years in one day. I just want to know if his hair will ever get back to it's black color. Please help! |

| I use Isle of Dogs products, it's a darker shampoo (you buy the one for dark haired dogs) it's not a dye, but it's a colour enhancer. Harley has gone from being really grey to black, and back. They just also go through phases. But if you use the shampoo it should bring out the blacker qualities in the grey. As the hair grows out if he is keeping the black then it should come back. But it is possible that maybe he was just breaking into a blue coat and that the puppy black being trimmed brought that out. So don't be surprised if it stays steal blue...

| I know it's a shock seeing your handsome little guy look so different but my Scooter had somewhat the same thing happen. I bet that he will get back to the black color. Scooter did but I was just like you, very upset.

| The color thing, you can't really help... that's not the groomers fault. Yorkies usually change drastically and it's always a shock after the first grooming, but it was going to happen eventually anyways. I'm sure he still looks adorable-but it definitely takes some getting used to!!

Jackson has changed colors alot.... but whenever he first gets groomed in the past 3 groomings with his new groomer, his back is a lot darker (not quite black, but darker, where as he is very light when it gets longer) and I was wondering if it was the shampoo or what. Because when he would get shaved at the old groomer, it would stay silver-ish when shaved. He always stays darker for about 5-7 days after grooming and then lightens up again! He's my ever changing chameleon. First pic - 9 weeks old Second pic - 1yr old Third pic (just last week @ 2yrs old... you can see it's darker)

| Awww, it'll grow back. The first time I took Max to the groomer he went with his big brother Cooper. When I picked them up I said "ohhh Coopy looks so cute!". The groomer said "that's Max" All of his black hair was gone. I was in total shock. It has since grown into a beautiful silver color. I told her not to cut much and he practically finished with a puppy cut.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I cried when I picked up Rhett from his first grooming appointment. Thankfully, it's just hair and it grows back. But yes, it's a shock seeing the color change when they come back. Don't mourn the loss of the puppy colors, just enjoy the preview of his adult look.

| I too cried after Hot Rod's first grooming. His "puppiness", what I called it was all gone. I hadn't realized that the black would be cut out. He only had the very tips of black and I don't know what I expected but I gave my puppy to the groomer and I got a big boy back! *sniff, sniff* But I couldn't have loved him any less as he was still in the puppy stage and I loved every moment. So I know how you feel, they are bound to grow up and yes, his hair will grow back...*sniff, sniff*.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | I recentley had Poppy groomed for the first time and although I love her cut she looks really different. I knew she would be different colours as I could see her roots were changing colour, but it is still a shock when you see just how much older they look. She dosnt look like a pup anymore, but shes still beautiful to me.

| my little pixie went to groomers for her first cut one week before christmas, and we had a similar thing happen. i literally cried for 3 days because they cut off her topknot! it was just starting to be long enough to be put up and it was in a topknot when i dropped her off. i told them only cut under her eyes and on her feet / butt area. i have used this groomer for my other 2 babies regularly and never had a problem. but this time apparently, it was a different person who did it and they did not listen to what i wanted them to do. she was given what they call "bangs" and i was so upset. i did pay and tip well but i do not plan on takin my girls there ever again. or to any other groomer lol. my babies fiorst haircut has ruined groomers for me and i plan on going back to doing it myself as i did the first few years with my yorkies. i was so upset because it was just before her first christmas and i was taking her to santa and wanted her to have a topknot, which is what i feel is like thier birth right! it is finally starting to grow back, i felt they robbed her of her puppy look also. the cute little black stripe on her nose was cut out. the groomer told me it will grow back in 6 months or so which made me cry even more! seems like a looooong time. she seemed traumatized also afterwards so i kept on holding her and telling her she's beautiful and she got over it in about a week. but never again, i specifically said what i wanted and they did what they wanted to do. now i've lost trust in all groomers! it's still your little baby, and it will grow back probably quicker than ya think. pixie's hair is almost long enough for a topknot again, my guess by this time next month she will be wearing all her pretty hair stuff again. i'm sorry you had to go through this. my fiance and family thought i was crazy for being so upset, but i know i'm not! i kept on asking them how they would feel if they took thier daughter for a trim and they shaved her head? hahaha they kinda understood then...
