| hair balls Savannah my rescue yorkie does have a cotton coat. Since she came into my life a week ago she pretty much has not left my side and is just into lots of cuddles and love. The lady gave me a tube cat hairball medicine and said she gave her this once a month and the dog had issues with hairballs and she had her to the vet but truly...based on the rest of this poor dogs life and story I'm just not so sure. I've had yorkies since I've been 16..gosh now I feel old about 32 years and never had one who had a hairball. I'm thinking maybe from her be crated 99 percent of the time she was licking due to anxiety and boredom...therefore getting hairballs? She sees the vet on wednesday and that will be something I ask about but I thought I'd ask here as well she has me owned already just like all the others did and I'm worried beyond words and praying all things check out ok. Last week we had awful ice ..snow etc and that put a delay on the vet visit stuff. If all is well they will schedule her spay as soon as they can fit her in. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That is great she has settled in with you. I have 2 with cottony coats and have never heard of giving a dog hair ball medicine either. Were you able to get any previous vet records? This will make you feel young again, I have had yorkies for 40 years! I am old! lol

| she put her vets number on her vaccination card and told me to call them she'd feel better if I did. I will let my vet decide if they want to give it a go not sure i'm trusting a vet who thinks its ok to breed this little 3.8lb dog again even though last time she had seizures and a csection and almost died. |

| I wouldn't give any meds made for cats to a dog without checking with your vet first. |

| I couldn't agree more she's far too tiny to have puppies and it will never happen again. She's such a gentle soul and it makes my heart heavy at the thought if I didn't stiffen my backbone and take her under my wing what could have happened to the poor little girl. It made me feel good though that Paul came along with me for support and when I asked him if he wanted to hold her he just tucked her up close to him. The lady wanted to hold her for apparently a goodbye and she pushed her head against him and pushed her front paws on his arm and tucked her face under his armpit ...a yorkie no way if you ask me and she owned this dog for 4 years....not a good sign at all |

| I've never heard of such a thing for a yorkie. Sounds a bit "quackish" to me. I know, if it were me, I wouldn't give "medicine" to my yorkie for hairballs. Have never had a yorkie with hairball problems, either. I'm glad you've got her and I know she will get great care from you.

| Thanks everyone for your wonderful input on this hairball thing I wasn't about to give her anything not even the little pill stapled to the folder (interceptor) until the vet and I talked about options and figure out what is safest for her. I have a feeling they are going to giggle for 20mins though when I pull out that hair ball stuff. This one might top my sobbing phone call that my Binky needed to be seen asap and had a big scab on her ear that was not there yesterday morning when I fixed her topknot. Which turned out to be a red candy she stole from my moms purse and then was outside trying to bury it and the dirt on it made it look like a scab when it ended up stuck on her ear...lol |
