| It probably depends on the size & age of your pup. Ask your vet what he/she recommends based on your pup's age & size. I got my ZoE at 6 weeks (yes, I know..very young) and her vet required that she be fed every 4 hours (6 times a day, which meant setting an alarm for middle of the night feedings. At her almost 9 week checkup he said to now feed her 4 times a day (every 6 hours), which now means only 1 middle of the night feeding And at 12 weeks, if she keeps progressing as she is, he would then recommend 3 times a day, while she is still a puppy. I'll go to twice a day, morning & evening, when she's an adult, as I did with my previous yorkie. ZoE is a healthy standard size pup on schedule to be a 6lb adult.

| I believe in free feeding. I have food and water available at all times and mine eat when they want. They are all lean and in good health -- Ben is a temporary exception. He was lean for 4 years, then I had him neutered and also had puppy food out for Annie (which he ate). He put on an extra pound. He is still not overweight, but not as lean as h was. But we are getting it off slow but sure. So -- free feeding has not put the weight on him, and he is continuing to lose while still allowing him to free feed.

| For those of you that free feed...did you do so as puppies? Did it make potty training any more difficult?

| I free fed since day one and had one heck of a time potty training. We worked out the potty training issue. I never heard of free feeding and trouble potty training coinciding with each other...hmm My little momma was as hard headed as they come but we worked through that issue too...I am more hard headed than she is! |

| Our two have always been free fed - when they were puppies I took them out every 1 1/2 hours and our youngest, Mabel, began to take longer on walks so I increased the time. She's now 9 months, totally trained (unless we forget!!) and now holds it for every 5 -6 hours. Good luck! |

| We free feed Rio and Bullet. Since they're on the smaller end of the size spectrum at 3 lbs, we want to be sure they can eat any time they want. Potty training wasnt' bad - just remember to take them out to potty after the usual times (after eating/drinking, after sleeping, after playing) and lots of times in between.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I free-feed as well...they nit pick their food, never eat at the dish, always grab a mouthful, come to mommies feet, eat, swallow, & return to dish. When I am not home, so I am told....grab a mouthful, run to mom's bed, swallow & return to dish lol. I have three dogs, and have no food-fights, since it is always available. It keeps the peace in the house, & no one is over-weight.

| I've been an dog owner and this is my first yorkie. Troy is 18 months old and he has been free fed since he was a puppy. I did this to ensure that he maintain his sugar levels. When he's hungry, he'll eat.
