| Playpen help!!!!!!! I need to pick out a new playpen/x pen for the two little ones. Their xpen is huge and takes up the whole kitchen and it's metal which can scratch the floor and is heavy to travel with. We're ready for a change and want to set something up in an area other than our beautiful eat in kitchen. I would like to move them to a bedroom or basement room instead but need something that either comes with a floor or I can build a floor with tiles so that pee doesn't go into the carpet JUST IN CASE. I'm looking at a few models and need advice from people that use them. 1. The iris brand plastic xpens Pet Containment Pens - Exercise Pens - Crates & Kennels - PetSmart and Walmart.com: IRIS 4 Panel Indoor/Outdoor Plastic Pen White: Dogs 2. The pet gear playpen style pen Walmart.com: Pet Pen with removable top, Tan/Chocolate: Dogs 3. Pet gear octagonal pen with removable top Pet Gear Travel Lite Octagon Soft-Sided Pet Pen with Removable Top - Crates & Kennels - Dog - PetSmart Anyone have these, what do you think? What do you do for pee/poop getting through to carpeted areas or even tiled ones. How easy is cleanup. Is it comfy and warm? Do they tear it up or chew through it? Anyone with some kind of crate/pen experience please help. |

| We just put in hardwood floors in the last 2 days...I have the same problem. We use a metal x-pen which has been good, but I don't want it to scratch the floor. I have his pen set up in the den on the carpet for now. We only use the pen when we go out for a few hours. I just can't give him free reign of the house for his own protection. I'll be interested to see what ideas come up or what you come up with. Good luck.

| Maybe you could try to put a vinyl or plastic shower curtain underneath the x-pen so it wont scratch the floor and it also will be easy clean-up. |

| Hello I recently bought a play pen for my little girl. Its looks quite identical to the one you have listed as under the Pet Gear Link, with exception that it is made by Precision Pet and its tan and black. I know they have small, medium and large but on many sites the Medium is sold out. Overall I like the play pen. I didnt like the idea of crate training her or keeping her in there at all, so I purchased the pen. Mya is trained not to poop or pee while in there, so she holds it. So I am not sure how well it does if there were to be any accidents going through the bottom. When I first got it she did tend to chew on some parts but she has stopped now. And her chewing didnt do any harm to the playpen. Hope I could help & Good Luck finding the perfect playpen Quote:

No Longer a Member | I'd be wary of a soft sided x-pen with two full grown pups sharing it, it would seem pretty easy for two yorkies to figure out an escape Otherwise I'm not sure, sorry, no ex-pens here. I just gate Rizzo in the kitchen if I'm going to be gone a while and there is too much out for him to get into. But my house is way to tiny to have an expen set up anyway |

| I have both the soft sided octagon pen and the first X pen you show. The soft octagen pen is dark inside and the dog doesn't get much light. I use this for traveling. The first X pen you show is the one I had set up in my kitchen. I have seen where people buy a small piece of linoleum and put that under the entire X pen for the floor. You could put a shower curtain down but it may end up being chewed to pieces. I liked this x pen because she could look out and not feel so confined.

| I have the pet gear one and LOVE it!!!!! they work well I would just buy the bigger one if you're going to have two in there. Harley can only escape when I leave the top zipper partially open, but if you got the bigger one, they couldn't jump out. It is SOOOOO wonderful Oh and it really is water proof, Harley dumped a water bowl the other day, and it didn't hit my mom's carpet at all, it's really easy to clean and once you learn how to fold it right it's super quick to put up and take down.

| I also have the Pet Gear one and love it! Great for traveling, as well. Very sturdy. They have not escaped once, nor have they tried.

| I have the first pen listed. I like it, but it might be too small for 2 dogs. I plan to expand mine eventually by buying a second iris pen and attaching it all together. You can buy 2 expansion panels but it's cheaper per panel to buy a second pen and connect them. Also, the screws holding the latches in place on the iris pen tend to screw themselves all the way in, and you need to loosen them occasionally or the pen will not latch. a little hard to explain but if you see it you will know what I mean. To answer your questions: my puppy doesn't chew it up (and he chews EVERYTHING) but I think when he is full grown he may be able to jump out (he's a little teapot ) It's also easy to clean the plastic when he has accidents. Might want to put linoleum or plastic under it though. |

| I have hardwood floors (bamboo) also but I like the metal exercise pens so what I did was get a section of vinyl flooring (softer than linenolum) cut slightly bigger than the pen to go underneath. We put the vinyl down, cover it with a blanket or towels, then the bed, food & water go at one end while the potty pad goes at the other end (I set it up in a long rectangle). It's easy to use, the blanket will soak up any spills or accidents, and they have the potty pad at the other end. The nice thing was that the vinyl flooring was very cheap and I didn't have to buy another exercise pen. Teresa |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I have several of this one: Pet Dog Cat Tent Puppy Playpen Exercise Play Pen Crate Small Teal - eBay (item 260597733410 end time Mar-01-11 10:55:06 PST) My little escape artist was able to get out of the standard playpen I bought for her within a week of her coming home. This pen has a top that zips on, and she has not been able to dig, chew, or climb her way out. It comes in several colors and sizes -- I have the small ones -- one for her bed in the bedroom, one in the living room where she likes to doze at night, and one in the car for travel. They're lightweight and easy to move around -- I don't move the bedroom one because it's loaded up with her bed and a water bottle on a stand. But when we entertain and I'm worried about Tallulah getting out or getting stepped on, I move the other pen around and keep it right by my side. I'm getting ready to order the largest size so she will have more room to play in when we entertain outdoors. |

| I use the regular metal x pen and set it up in a square configuration. Went to walmart and bought a package of the heavy duty foam floor mats that go together like a puzzle.. they are about an inch thick and they come 6 to a package. 4 put together fit perfectly under the xpen. They are in the sporting goods department sold as yoga/exercize mats and VERY cheap. I think they were about 12 dollars. Anyway, since mine is set up on carpet, I use a square vinyl tablecloth under the mats, next put the mats down, then put the xpen on top. Then I poked holes in the edges all the way around it, just outside of the xpen and used tie wraps to go thru the holes and around the bottom edge of the xpen to hold it in place. I use washable potty pads inside, set up his small crate in one corner and his donut bed right next to it.. I use a water bottle on the side of the xpen and it prevents water spills (they learn to use it very quickly. I also use a stainless steel "coop bowl" mounted to the side of the xpen for his food. They can be purchased at most pet supplies and are only 3-4 dollars each. This way there is no food spilled and no water spilled. Add toys and your baby and you are set! I also bought a metal top on Amazon for like 16 dollars and it prevents escape and allows them to see out without feeling like they are cooped up. It also allows you to unclip the front part of the top and fold it towards the back so you can step over into the xpen for easy cleanups. Here are a couple of pictures.. well it is NOT opening the manage attachment links to allow me to upload pictures right now.. so I will go upload them elsewhere and provide the links..
