| Am I being paranoid? Hi, I need some advise here. Yesterday, I took Tezel to visit a friend. It was his first time out from home. We went to her condo and there was a big grassy place where I let Tezel run around. He was soo excited and curious about everything, smelling the grass, tree roots and etc. And of coz, he was licking them too where I have to pick him up every now and then to avoid him swallowing unwanted stuff. Well, he looked just like a curious little boy, looking at everything, everyone and practically anything. Today when he woke up, he was not so active and his appetide was not that great. He did not finish his food. Usually he will just finish them in less than a minute. Got worried and took him to the vet. Poor Tezel, shivering the moment we walked into the clinic. The vet examine him and told me he got some stomach discomfort due to his stomach was bloated. he prescribe some anti-biotic and charcoal tablet. Well, the whole day, he was either feeling very weak and sleep or he is hyper active and jump around. But, he seems a bit distance from me, as in very distracted and playful, partially ignoring me. Usually he would sniff me when I put my face near his nose and he would lick me. Now he just struggle his way thru, wanting me to put him on the floor so that he can run around and play. When I feed him his regular dog food, he would just sniff a bit and turn away. I have to feed him with my hand. I do notice that he is having some slight blocked nose. Could this be the reason why he is not eating well? I sort of regret bringing him out, coz the vet said, I should have keep him indoor for at least 2-3 weeks after the vaccination before bringing him outdoor. Sigh.... |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Okay first off... How old is he? How many vaccinations has he had? And how long before you took him outside did he have the vaccination? The vet is right you really should wait a couple of weeks after their last vaccination before taking them outside. The reason being is that they can catch parvo which can be fatal and other nasties from grass and lamposts ect. It is good that you have taken him to the vet and had him checked out. Did he give a reason as to why he thought his stomach was bloated? and is this the same vet which gave him his vaccinations?

| My vet would not let me bring my dogs out until 10 days after his rabies vac. It said it takes that long for it to immune their system. He said if I have to bring them out to carry them and not to let them on the ground because they can still pick up germs from another dog. Hope Tezel is feeling better. |

| I would be VERY cautious about what grassy areas I let my dogs walk or play on. There could be chemicals and/or pesticides there that could prove fatal for a little dog or a cat. Maybe he got exposed to something on the grass but I would watch him carefully...is he going wee wee ok? keep an eye on that.Is he drinking water ok? If he goes on a pee pad keep an eye on the color of his urine. I also would check with the condo place and see what kind of fertilizer or chemicals they use on their grass. If they say it is pet safe dont believe it! I lost my dear cat to this problem at a former residence at an apartment complex. She died a horrible death and by the time i found out what caused it it was too late! I am sure your baby will be fine but please be careful.

| also I see you are in Malaysia.. I don't know what types of plants you have there but there are MANY that just licking the leaves of them can be deadly to our dogs.. one that comes to mind is the SEGO palms. I would certainly check out the plants in your area and find out which ones are toxic to dogs. I know someone who's yorkie died of kidney failure after carrying a sego palm clipping around in the yard.

| Hi all, thanks for the advice. I did asked the condo management and as expected, they say their grass is non toxic and their plant is not poisonous to any pets. There are many pets playing around and they have not received any complain before. Anyways, little Tezel is all jumpy and active again. But he refuse to take his dog biscuit from his bowl and picky towards his choice of treats. I'll be extra careful next time when I bring him out... |
