| My Yorkies Ears Hi all im new to this so I hope im posting in the right area. My question is I have a 3 month old male and it seems like only his right ear is up and the left is only semi up. Do they come up at different times or is this the way its going to be and if so what can I do to make sure his left side goes up also? |

| Hello! Welcome to YT! You can shave the ear down so it won't be as heavy. This usually will help the ear stand. Also, you can tape the ear up. You can google ear taping yorkies or look on YouTube to get a better idea. I'm not good at explaining the taping! I did this with Remy and his ears stand straight up now (you can see in my avatar). Sometimes, the ear will not stand. A lot of people on YT have yorkies with floppy ears and one ear up, one ear down. They are just as cute, or cuter . Good luck!!

| I agree.. the first thing to do is to shave both sides of his ears to remove the weight added from the hair. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, have a groomer or vet do it for you. If that doesn't help then you can ask your vet or the breeder you got your yorkie from how to tape them. You can also do an online search for "how to tape a yorkie ear" and you will see lots of different ways to do it.

| I have never shaved Zeke's ears and his finally stood up on their own. One was up and one was down until he was about 6 mos. old. |

As others have said keeping the hair cut off the ears and taping will help the ears to stand until they get through the teething process. | |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | My Yogi has floppy ears. I did not know at the time when they were going up that me not keeping the tips groomed were weighing them down. Yogi has cottony? or wooley fur as I've seen it called here. When he comes from the groomer, they are back "up" again for a few weeks. I don't mind his looks, he has a perpetual puppy look, and the smartest dog I have ever owned. |

| I have the same problem with my little one! He is 6 months now & I thought the last taping I did finally worked. The stayed up for several weeks. Now, they are both down again! I've heard that some yorkies take up to 10 month for them to stand. I keep them shaved & massage them daily. I figure that they either will or they won't. Either way, he is still adorable!

| Sometimes when they are teething you will see their ears drop a little. Not to worry. I agree with Sunny, shave the tips and do some research on taping ears. Good Luck... Last edited by manolos mom; 02-01-2011 at 04:45 AM. |

| Zach's ears alway stood up but now that I haven't had him groomed for awhile they are getting a little floppy. I'm hoping that when I get him groomed in a couple of weeks his ears will stand up again. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Every pup is different, there is no special age in which the ears will stand. Some stand early, some stand later, some dont stand at all, teething will stop the ears from standing also. Poppy is 8 months old and her ears are yet to stand, she has just had a hair cut so this could help. You could try trimming the hair on the ears as sometimes it weighs them down.
