| Help/guidance with adding another Yorkie to our home hello folks, We currently have a little girl who is 2yrs 2months and we are possibly going to acquire a little 5month old boy from a college student who can keep him due to problems with her other dog not getting along. We want to adopt him, but I am a little nervous about it. Our little girl is spiled rotten and is the center of every spare moment we have. I know she won't realize it, but outside of giving this dog a great home, i am doing it for her to have a playmate. In my mind I have this awesome piture of them running around and playing so happily. Am i dreaming here? i don't want this to go bad so I am asking for some guidance on whether it is a terrible idea or how to make it work. i know there will be an adjustment period, but any help/pointers you all can give me would be so helpful. thanks for listening |

| Does your little girl have experience with other dogs and did she seem to like being with other dogs? Everything depends on individual personalities. My first boy, I always called an only child and in many ways I think he would have been fine being the only one. However, I added a second, and they are best buddies. There was an adjustment period, but they truly enjoy having each other. They are not self-entertainers, meaning they both still want their humans to play with them, but they are improving. They will chase and play tug-o-war more now on their own. If a second dog fits your lifestyle, I say go for it.

| There will most likely be an adjustment period, check out my latest thread.... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-any-tips.html Many people do have yorkies who get along right away, many don't. But I say if it will benefit in the long run....go for it, that's why I did it, I know in time all will be well, just gotta get through the tough, rough 1st month or 2. I enjoy it by spending QT with each pup. For some reason although my pup Reesie is STUNNING (what pup isn't??? right) but Snickers (my 2.5yr old) is just beyond words beautiful to me. I see things in his that I love that I have never noticed before. BUT I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE FRIENDS!!!! Good luck- Vivian

| We starated out with 2 bassets and they were the center of our world. Then one day along came Zoe our little shorkie. The two bassets were a little pissed at first but after awhile they became fast friends. Then a few months later we got Zach our little yorkie. The three girls were not overly happy to greet another member of the family but again they accepted Zach into the group. Just before Christmas we rescued a 6 week old shih tzu who was abandoned by his owner with his three sisters. Now everybody loves Oliver no jealousy no problems. Sometimes even the most spoiled dogs accept another dog real fast other times it takes a little longer but you have to have patience. When you give to one you have to give to both when you hug one you have to hug them both The older dog being first. That's how we did it and when they knew they were all loved we had no problem. |
