| Build up (tear stains) Removal I apologize if this has been posted before, I did a brief search but did not find any tips. I was wondering if anyone has a good solution to curing the build up (tear stains I guess they are called) on Yorkies? I've successfully cut out the build up once, but only a few days later, there is a pretty thick build up and it's very close to the eyes, so I can't cut it again. It's almost intrusive to the dog, so I was wondering if anyone has any tips. He really sits there well and is a trooper throughout me trying to clean it, but it just keeps coming back and builds up even thicker. Any tips would be certainly appreciated. |

| Have you tried buying tear stain removal? I picked some up at my local pet store and it worked well for harlow's stains.

| Have you had the eyes checked to see if there is a possible infection? The eyes should be cleaned daily with, at least, a warm, wet washcloth. This will prevent any buildup. Some dog foods make it worse.

| I have not - but three routine visits to the pet clinic and I've brought it up each time - they just say to clean it more. I will definitely clean daily as you suggest, but for now I need to get the clumps out. Should I post a photo? |

| You can also try giving only distilled water instead of tap water. I made the change to distilled water for Rio and Bullet and it's made a noticeable difference. I've also heard changing their food can make a difference - but I haven't done that because my two are picky eaters and sensitive tummies too...

Is the clumping possibly a hair mat?

| Forgive me if this product is frowned upon by other owners but I swear by Angel Eyes. It's a product you sprinkle on their food each day (only a 1/2 teaspoon) and it works almost immediately. Clears up their eyes in about a week. I researched it a ton before I purchased it and never found anything harmful associated with it. My little guy has had NO issues and his eyes are completely clear, I bought the chicken flavored one and he loves it, even allows him to enjoy his food more. Best of luck in your search!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If this is just a crusty thing that comes overnight, I'd do like the others say, warm water and a cloth to soften, and then wipe away. Some people have problems with it being wet all day long, and stains develop from this.

| I use baby wipes 2x a day and they really help, I buy the johnson for senstive skin I get them warm so the kids dont mind it so much. I also use distilled water and it really makes a diffrence. small breed dogs are prone to eye infections according to my vet because of there hair. not sure if im convinced on that.

| I would rather use spring water than distilled. Distilled has no minerals - something that is needed for good nutrition. I would just feed a quality diet and clean the eyes daily. If you see a reddish-color around the eyes, that is a sign of infection and it is time to get some antibiotic eye drops from the vet.
