| Contacting Breeders Before I start, I want to let you know how much I appreciate this site. This is really helpful. I have met (not in person just yet) wonderful people who are supportive and giving me great advice. So thank you and thank you and thank you. I also want to say that I have contacted fabulous breeders who are on Yorkietalk. I have contacted a few of them. They have been wonderful. And I am feeling that I would rather be on the waiting list of YT members than local breeders. Anyway.. let me tell you... (I hope she doesn't read the post here though...) I contacted a local breeder... She is about 40 minutes to 1 HR away. So I emailed her at first because I have my accent.. Then ... she didn't want to some of my questions. How bigs are sir and dam, Deposit, Price Range, and color of yorkies... etc.. So she asked me to call. We did some phone tags but didn't get to talk. SO I finally got her on the phone. So I started asking her questions. She says that because of their dogs are championline and show dogs, they are 2100-2400. I was kinda.. ahhh.. it is a bit off from my budget. 2000 and up is a bit tough for me at least. But I am thinking about any possibility because this is a big decision I am gonna make. So I need to find one that is going to be for me. Anyway.. then I asked her if she shows her dogs before puppies were born. Like myself, I want to see parents and meet the breeder before I decide whom I want to buy a yorkie from if possible. She is pretty close to me. And I am not looking for a puppy until spring, so that is what i asked. So i said "I don't do that. My yorkies are championline and it tells you all. And my dogs are popular so I don't really have time to show them to people. When the puppies are born and after 5 weeks old, if people want to see it, they can." Well.. it is hard to tell you.. but at this point.. the conversation just blew me away. I mean.. 2100-2400.. That is a big money... So I think.. she is OUT.. It seems there are much nicer and better breeders on Yorkietalk.. Even those breeders are far from me, I would like to look into the option more. I am waiting for some people to respond to some of my questions (wink wink).. then.. hopefully I will put myself on some waiting list.. soon. Wish me luck, Michiko

| Finding the perfect dog and breeder is tough....insanely tough....I've been having that problem for about a year now. Hopefully, the one I'm seeing Saturday will work out. Good luck to you! Just trust your gut. if it seems shady, just walk away.

| Many breeders have a female puppies priced in the $2000.00 and up range. Where you have to be careful is that there are very poor quality dogs also priced in the same group. I had a female that a buyer would not purchase- good bloodlines because I had her priced too cheap. Her theory was that if it was cheap something was wrong. keep looking and talking and you will find the right breeder for you. Your new puppy is out there waiting for you- or may be just a twinkle in some studs eye waiting to be born for you in a few months. Kathy |

| I mean.. if yorkie is more than 2000.. that is what a breeder decided.. And I would have considered if she weren't so.. I don't know how to describe. I just didn't like her saying that their championlines tell everything so they don't have people visit unless babies were 5 weeks.. Well.. maybe.. just her tone of voice and her CAPITAL LETTERS ONLY EMAIL! I thought it would be the closest place I could visit .. but.. oh well.

| I don't let people see my kids until they are six weeks of age and plus two to three days. My reason is that the little ones get the first shot at six weeks and I give a couple of days for the antibodies from the vaccination to take hold. yes it was unkind to be rude to you- she should have explained her reasoning and it would have made sense to you- hopefully . If you are looking for a puppy try and get one that is at least 12 weeks age. Anything younger then that is too big a risk. The older the better. Kathy |

| Kathy, I start vaccines at 8 weeks and do not allow anyone in to visit the babies til they are 12 weeks old. That is just a visit; nothing obligatory.. I am comfortable interviewing and evaluating and selecting new parents for my fur children. There have been more than a few who did not meet my standards and I tell them so and why. I probably don't measure up for some who want to look.. |

I start shots at 6 weeks and do them every three weeks until 15 weeks of age. If I have a client who has been waiting on acertain puppy I will allow them to see thier kid and take pictures of that baby. I think that all of us who breed have turned down someone who wanted to adopt a baby because it was not a good match. That is just part of the adoption process. Do not assume that just beacuse you have breed two Champions you are going to produce Champions. You look at the pedigrees and hope that mother genetics gives you a thumbs up but does not always work. There are going to be more then likely companion puppies in every litter you produce. May be just some tiny little thing that makes them a no go for showing or breeding. Kathy | |

| I actually wanted to see parents. The breeder didn't seem to want to show me their pics even... So... I felt a bit stuck.. I will be moving on... so.. who knows I am being unreasonable.....
