| Red Legged Yorkie?? I had a thought (it happens once in awhile!!) - maybe my one pup is one of those "red legged Yorkies" (??). Her coat is somewhat dry and sparse. So where does that come from? Her parents and grandparents I've seen all have that long, lush silk coat. Her two brothers have the lush, beautiful hair. So does a red legged Yorkie just pop up in a litter? Or is it one of those types that start out slow growing and end up with a beautiful coat a year or two down the line? How does one know? She's pretty long legged two (if that matters). Anyway, we're most likely keeping her and it doesn't matter if she is or isn't a "red legged" - I'm just wondering how that pops up in a line, etc., does anyone know about how out of several generations of beautiful silky coats a red legged one would pop up (in case she is) (She's 4 1/2 months old) I've read several old posts here and researched it bit online but no one seems to know how/if this pops up. Anyone have any knowledge on that aspect? Thanks!

| No, no one ever replied...figured no one knew the answer. I search and read what all I could find but nothing doesn't answer the question how, or even if, a red legged Yorkie could pop up in a long history of regular Yorkies. I will try to get a picture at some point. I know this (and we're not telling my beloved first Yorkie, Gracie this lol), but my little "potential" red legged has the most beautiful face in the world. She's really quite amazing in her looks. Though I doubt a camera phone type picture would do her justice.

| Do you have pictures of this pup? I have read that some breeders in the past would use a red leg yorkie to bring color back into their lines. So I suppose that is why we see the red leg yorkie pop up occasionally.

| I will work on trying to get a picture of her this weekend and post. At least some sort of picture from her side where you might be able to see the hair and coloring better. The only pics I have don't show her entire body or are blurry, etc. I'm hoping she's the type that ends up growing the long beautiful hair...the "ugly duckling" thing - sparse and thin while young and then grows into the beautiful swan (as far as her hair goes). Either way, she's beautiful. Any red legged Yorkies would have to be at least 4 generations back, so if there was one and one popped up for me that is interesting information for people I'm thinking...confirms how things can pop up unexpectedly. I'm also wondering how someone could tell whether she's a red legged or just a (extra) slow coat grower??? Her hair is about 2" long on her body, legs & face shorter, all hair is very straight and fine, except for the leg hair which is coarser texture. The skin on her back is still very dark (whereas her brothers have the lighter skin -indicative of saddle going lighter??), her face hasn't lighten as much as her brothers, etc. Will post a picture soon. Thanks all for responding.

| how about short legs Bella is the daughter of Sure Shot (Chandler) who was BoB for three years at Westminster and her legs are soooo short, and the fronts are shorter than rear. Unbelieveable how these things pop up. |

It's the hair on her legs that is short...she's actually long legged (but so is her mother a bit, so I think)...her short hair accentuates the long leggedness, whereas her mother has the long/floor length hair so she looks pretty balanced all in all.

| Lol, yes it is amazing how a breeder can plan the perfect breeding and end up with pups that are nothing like either parent. Breeding the perfect yorkie is not as easy as one would think, even with the best bloodlines.

| How old is this pup? Did you get her for show? Funny how some breeders like the shorty cobby body and other like a leggier yorkie. When you combine the two you don't know what you will get. If she is still a pup she could still come up on leg. I would love to see a picture of her.

She was one of our pups, not for show, just for love. I don't think she's going to get very big. She's about 3.5 pounds right now, sweet as can be. For now here's a pic of one of her pup pictures, she was about 9 weeks in the Christmas shot. Maybe you can see the hair on her legs is "scruffy" --- her body hair is smooth, shiny, and straight as a stick.

| I think she is too young to tell. I thought my guy was a red legged Yorkie, but his hair finally grew. His does not grow very fast, so he does not need to be trimmed often, which I love. |
