| Doggie daycare? Has anyone ever taken their puppies to doggie daycare? I'm thinking about taking Teddy because it's a facility that also teaches them tricks while they're there! While Teddy's separation anxiety is getting better, its still not where I'd like it to be (I'm still working on it) and I'm not sure if anyone has tried this as an alternative to help them build confidence about being away from their furmom (aka me?)

Yes, I've taken mine to doggie daycare. Barney loves going, Daisy is ok with it, and Teddy does not do well at all. I would try it!

| Chase went to daycare for the first (and second) time last week. He loved it! They have a camera there, so I was able to watch him from my computer. He LOVED playing with the other small dogs. |

| Yes, my girls love doggie day care. As soon as we pull up, they are wagging their tails and dancing with excitement. Ours also has a web cam so you can watch them while they are at day care. Be careful though, the web cam is addicting! |

| I would definitely try it. I tried it with Vinnie years ago and while he didn't like it, I know a lot of dogs really benefit from the activity and interaction with other dogs. Like any multi-dog activity, there are some things to be cautious about (fights can break out and you always want to make sure your dog is only with other smaller dogs). I would also look for a facility, if one is near you, that has webcams so that you can watch what's going on. I take Vinnie & Alex to Best Friends for grooming and their whole place is wired with webcams, which makes it much more relaxing for me because I can see what is going on. So long as the place is safe and your dog has had all necessary vaccinations, I don't see why you shouldn't give it a try!

| Mine loved it! Now we just do it for Nala because of money and she has so much extra energy to get out, but once a month we still send Bandit. They both love going and get so excited. The owner and Bandit have a really special bond too and he's picky about people and takes a long time to warm up. When they get home they're so tired! It's great. You don't have to feel guilty about leaving your fur-butts at home while your at work because for at least that one day a week you know they're having fun Last edited by BanditSocks2; 01-18-2011 at 02:39 PM. |

| I work at a doggie daycamp and I get to take my kids with me! Roman and Mallie aren't the most playful, but they have their friends that they know by name and get so excited to to see them. We always have atleast 2 camps so they get to play with only the smaller dogs and lazy big dogs. Although Roman has followed me into the big kids' camp and doesn't mind it at all lol. I like daycamp because it give them indoor exercise so I don't have to take them outside for a walk or to the dogpark when its gross outside. They also get to see all kinds of dogs and people and having socialized dogs is very important to me. And the best part of all, when I go home tired from a long day at work I know they're not going to be bugging me with their crazy terrier energy because they are knocked out! Lol

| And to answer your question. I only take mine when I'm working a long day and no one else will be home. But we have a lot of pet parents who bring their dog(s) for seperation anxiety issues. We do have parents tell us that even when the dogs aren't in camp and are at home maybe the day after camp that they are calmer and less anxious about being left. Maybe that's due to the extra activity their getting, but either way they are happier. We do have people that have to bring their dog(s) pretty much everyday because of severe seperation anxiety, but those cases are the extreme. I hope daycamp works for you! Let me know if you have any questions, because I think I've pretty much seen it all when it comes to daycamp lol

| Bruce loves daycare! Now that I own my own firm he can come to work with me but I still make it a point to make sure he goes to daycare twice a week at least! It is great because he gets a little extra exercise, he has friends and his daycare does all sorts of neat activities with the pups. Bruce has gone ever since he was fully vaccinated as a little baby and it was very integral to his socialization.

| For some reason I'm getting delays on replies to threads, but not PM's? It's weird... Okay I don't think the daycare has cameras because it is new, however its run by someone who is a dog trainer. As far as I know I do not think they separate the dogs based on size, but instead I think they are separated by temperament. Apparently, after the application and proof of vaccinations has been submitted you schedule a date where you bring in your pup and his "first day" of daycare is free. They use this day to evaluate the dog's temperament and then they place him on one of three different programs. Each program teaches basic manners (sit, drop, intro to leash walking etc) so the neat thing I think about this daycare is that there are trainers on staff that teach your dog, as well as providing free play time with other dogs, etc. I'm not sure if this is common with all daycares since I've never been to one (Teddy is my first pup). While Teddy and I are attending puppy classes, I realized he hasn't been socialized enough (he is EXTREMELY excited in puppy class, does not pay attention to treats etc) which is my fault...and so I thought daycare would be a great way for him to meet and socialize with other dogs and people, lowering his arousal levels in puppy classes...I'm not away from home more than 5 hours a day usually 3 times a week, however Teddy is extremely high energy and he appears to be very social (he wants to go up to EVERY SINGLE PERSON when we go on walks) and I think that daycare would be wonderful for him...and plus it would give me a couple of extra hours of quiet time so I can read for school while he's at daycare!!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I hope he has as good a time as my Tallulah does! I had planned on taking her for a few months until she gets over her anxiety at being alone, but she is thriving so much there and is so happy that I don't think I will ever stop taking her when I go to work. |
