| Here we go again... Looking for dog food. I switched Rosie to Wellness Small Bites recently. I have been very pleased with it; however, I noticed her tear stains are really really bad right now. I was told it could be the food. Does anyone have any knowledge of this being true? If so, I am on the look for a good food again. I stopped at a pet store and was given samples of Taste of the Wild, Instinct, and Logic. Logic is what they recommend there. They also sold me a facial scrub for her tear stains. Petco had nothing as far as facial scrubs. All they had was the bottles of tear stain removers. So, I thought I would try the scrub. So, any knowledge about a connection between tear stains and food?

| I am no expert but I think dried beet pulp often times creates dogs to have red/brown tear stains. Have you tried Acana??? It's a wonderful food that MANY of us feed our pups. Snickers is on it and cont to LOVES it after a good year of eating it. I do rotate with Primal Raw but it's always down for him to snack on. We use the Grainfree Line in Grasslands and Prairie formulas. Snickers has always had tear stains...I doubt they will ever leave. Although after switching to Primal and Acana (from Innova EVO) his tear stains went from red to clearish now. I also dip my wet knife in Angel Eyes before I cut up his Primal Raw. So he gets a very minimal amount every morning. Good luck.....I know how tough it can be!!! -Vivian

| I also am not an expert but I feed Sophie the Wellness small breed kibble and I don't think she has excessive tear staining. Just a tad in the inner corners but not too bad.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I switched my girls to Wellness Core Low-Fat and I have also noticed more eye-tearing - thinking about changing also.

| Jackson had lots of tear stain problems on the regular Wellness, but so far not the CORE. I've heard others have the same complaint.

Maybe I should try the CORE. I like the Wellness and it has really good ratings. But the tear stains are driving me nuts!! I used the cleaner and facial scrub on her today. It is better but still not great.

Ok maybe I should not change to CORE. I thought I was crazy. Glad I am not the only one.

| Are you feeding treats that perhaps have some kind of food coloring in them? The only thing that cleared up Baxter's eye staining was making sure that all of them get nothing that has any kind of dye in it. Sometimes it can just be the chemicals in your city water. Lots of causes.

| My Yorkie is very tiny and I was having trouble getting him to eat. The vet told me that I should try Royal Canin. They sell it at Pet Smart. They have a special brand for Yorkshire Terriers that has very small kibble bites. Gizmo loves it and so far he does not have any of the tear stains that you mentioned. |

| I've heard distilled water is supposed to help with tear stains. Haven't tried it myself yet, but I intend to. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I've gone both ways with the water, and that's what makes me think it's the food. My girls ate Holistic Select and were good with the tearing with either bottled or tap water. Then Bridget got a little "porkey" and I was looking for a good low-fat food, and switched to Wellness because there were so many good reviews. The tear-staining started so I gave them nothing but bottled water but the tearing continues. I'm really bummed - I was so hoping this was going to be the one. I haven't changed anything else in their diet - so I can only assume it's the food - but who know....only after being owned by a Yorkie do I realize I really don't know anything!! LOL!

| I haven't tasted distiller water but I hear it tastes different than regular water.
