| Eating Poop I got my first Yorkie in 1990. My latest pups I got a year ago. They were 4 months old when I got them. I have tried to break them of eating poop (my other two have never eaten poop). Someone on this site suggested feeding them pineapple. I have tried that now for over a month, feeding it to them in the morning. It doesn't work. Anyone have any suggestions? I will ask my vet when I see her this month. They go outside to potty, and even though it is winter here, they still try to eat it. Thanks. |

| I found this and hope it can be helpful: There are several possible causes of dogs eating their own feces or other non-food items, including malnutrition, vitamin deficiency, increased appetite, or conditions such as diabetes, or thyroid disease. Parasites can be another of the causes for this behavior. Sometimes a dog will eat their feces if there are undigested articles of food in their stool. Mothers with newborns will also commonly eat the feces of their newborns. As such, puppies may eat feces as an observation of the mother's behavior or as part of exploration. In addition, a dog may eat feces as a response to recent punishment, to get attention or because it desires to clean its environmental area. Medical Causes: Inflammatory bowel disease Diabetes Intestinal parasites Anemia Increased hunger Neurological disease Vitamin deficiency Malnutrition Thyroid disease Diagnosis Your veterinarian will be looking to distinguish between medical and behavioral causes. A full physical examination will be recommended to rule out underlying medical causes. If it is not due to a medical condition, the veterinarian will conduct a full history on the dog, including its diet and appetite, handling practices, and information about its environment. This will assist the veterinarian in developing a proper treatment plan. |

| Quite often there is no reason for a dog to do this. Here is a thread that I created that now has tons of information that can help you. I'm still working on this issue with Max, but after many months we are finally starting to get somewhere! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-his-poop.html

| Ha! I am having this problem now, too. My 1st gal did it when she was a pup, but she quit. Now we took in a year old gal and she frequently does eat poop. Now my original gal is doing it again, like she might be missing out on something. They won't eat pineapple and the commercial pills aren't for dogs this small, dose wise. I am at a loss as well. They are fed Orijen exclusively, and vet seems to think they are normal and healthy. |

I have had yorkies for 20 years. I get this pup a couple months ago and she eats poop. No, not her poop, the other dogs poop! Little pooper!! Well a few days ago I went to the N. Walmart. They are now carrying a line of products called 'Pro Pet' and I found 'stool-eating preventative'. I bought it and have only used it two days. It says it takes a little while, but I am ever hopeful! Here it is with below 0 temps and I am out running around yard picking up poop immediately so she won't get after it. Only good thing is with all this snow, that only the walkways are clear! She just had a complete vet check yesterday, poop included and she is healthy. She had baby teeth that were still intact so I had that taken care of. I go to 'Bismarck Animal Clinic' up by the home depot. Get this, my bill came to $481. !!!! Man I have been going there for about 20 yrs but they are getting so expensive! I love the place, as they spacifically are known to take care of toy breeds but this is way out there! Where do you take your dog(s)? I would be interested to know what other prices for procedures are at other vets. Have a good 1-11-11 | |

| Hi Norma. I also have a yorkie that tends to eat other dogs poo. I say tends, as he doesn't always do this and stopped for several years?!? He started this as a puppy. I was horrified. Did tons of research.(Didn't know about YT then.) I tried everything, including medicine from my vet as I also got a healthy check up report on my Max. My late husband started sprinkling all poo with tobasco sauce. It took about two weeks, but he did stop eating the poo. Max is now 8 and has recently started this filthy habit again. I am once again trying the tobasco sauce, hoping it works again. Max never eats his own poo - only my other dogs, and they eat the exact same food! Will keep watching your posts, maybe someone will have a suggestion that works. I will try anything if my hot sauce doesn't work this time! |

| I have a pooper eater too. Vet checked her out said everything is fine and gave me stuff to sprinkle on food It is called "For-Bid" She stopped after a day or two. If she starts again I do the sprinkel again. I have only had to use it 2x. After reading some places I found as soon as I see them poop, I go get it. I think mine was eating hers to hid it cause she had been getting no-no and bad girl from pooping in wrong place. Since my two share food bowl vet said it would be okay if both ate it. |
