| puppy shedding I'm wondering if yorkie pups generally shed their puppy coats or does it just grow out?. Lexie started shedding this week and i'm not sure if this could be a possible side effect of the ear medication i give her(for yeast infection), which she usually rubs all over herself when i'm done or is she really shedding. The shedding did start when she started the meds but is it just a coinsidence? |

| Mine hasn't shed, he's 5 mnths. I've saw a few hairs but yorkies are not shedders. Is it a lot of hair or just a few?

| I don't think that's normal for yorkies. I hope one of the breeders can answer. I was told they grow out their puppy coat. After a trim, they look nice with their adult coat.

| As far as I know they shed as much as a human does, cause it's hair not fur. But a breeder could tell you better. I think they do partially shed thier puppy coats as the full one grows in... but not sure.

| I wonder if you are not seeing breakage rather than shed hair. My Moka leaves a lot of hair on me (or used to, not so much anymore) and it was broken off. She just has a lot of hair but it is very brittle and breaks easy, so you can imagine, it never gets very long.

| Yes, the fine puppy fur does shed while growing their new coat, but it shouldn't be severe. If the shedding is just more than normal, then it may be caused by stress. Even adult Yorkies can "drop" their coat if under a lot of stress. Just brush daily and keep things as calm as possible and that should do the trick.

| just a quick update, Lexie has stopped "shedding". It was stress from applying her ear meds every night. She would put up the biggest fight and times would take me 10 mins to get them in, i didn't know it was having that much of a traumatizing effect on her. Thank god that now i only apply drops once a week after her baths. thanks everyone |
