| OMG I Just went through a horrible experience There are tears running down my face so I can't even see what I'm writing. I was sitting at my computer on YT when I heard this dog yelp outside. I thought one of my dogs had gotten lose from the backyard and gotten hit by a car. I ran to the front door and there was a kid walking this dog (don't know what kind of dog he is) but he was walking him on a rope and kicking and beating the dog with a stick. I started screaming and the kid let the dog go and ran. The dog came right to me and I brought him into my house. He had a tag with a name and address on it. I called the police and they came within 10 minutes of my call (Bless the Suffolk Police Dept.) The dog had blood all over him I took a chance and wiped him down a bit to try to see his inuries. I know I was taking a risk but I just had to help him. When the police came they called the number on the tags and a few minutes later a lady came running to my door crying. She told the police that there was a mentally challanged boy living across the street from her and he's broken into homes and took their dogs. Then let them go. Blocks away from where they lived. The police took the lady and the dog to a animal hospital and then went to the address of the boy. Thats all I know right now I'll post more as I find out. |

| Did you say he is mentally challenged? Why is he not supervised? His guardian is the one responsible here. I have a disabled son and he is NEVER without supervision. However, my son is very sweet and loves everything. He would not be mean to the dog but would be hugging and kissing it!

| That is scarey stuff. The police are going to have to do something with this situation. The boy can't be allowed to run around without someone to keep tabs on him. Child in need of care.

| How sad. I hope the dog will be ok . You did all you could in the situation. If it was the mentally chalenged boy , then the adults who are in charge of that kid will be held liable for his behavior. My son is 17 , autistic, and functions at a much younger age. He would never think to harm a animal. He is verbal , and goes to a special class in high school. My point is that if it was the same kid going around the neighborhood doing these things , then he is not being supervised at all , and causing a lot of trouble and commiting crimes . Now that the police is involved that kid may or may not be responsible. I am very glad that you did what you did , and the dog was returned to its owner.

I agree. And it sounds like it is not the first time this has happened. Something needs to be done to make the parent/guardian keep a closer watch. Not only the endangering of the animals but also himself.

| Bless your heart for saving this dog in a horrible situation. I hope this boy's mother learns that she needs to supervise her son more closely. Please keep us updated on how the dog is doing.

| You did the right thing. Most would have done the same. Poor dog, and poor boy. Who knows with the right supervision he might not be so mean to animals. You can't blame the kid if he really has problems, but the parents? Absolutely!! Hope all turns out well. |

| Okay here's the latest. The police were nice enough to come back and give me an update. Major (the dog) is going to be fine. His injuries were mlinor axcept for a few deep gashes. He was given meds and the lady was able to take him home with her. The lady's name in Karen. She lives a few blocks from me. She came over and wanted to give me a reward but of course I told her no. I told her to take the money and donate it to an anmal rescue that's enough reward for me. Now as far as the kid. The police told me that when they rang the bell of the home where the child lives, a man answered the door and he was drunk as a skunk. His wife was also drunk they were arrested on child endangerment and neglect and someone was there from CPS to take the boy. He's 13 years old his sister who is 6 was also taken plus a 3 year old boy who was taken. The boy will probably be evaluated and then depending on the outcome he will be placed somewhere. The other part of the story is that their house is in forecolsure and they will be leaving one way or another so at least the neighborhood will be safe or at least the dogs. Karen said she will let me know as she finds out. So at least there is a semi happy ending to this who thing. Oh and btw Karen brought Major with her who is wearing an e cone but he gave me a big greeting and lots of kisses. All I could do is hug him and cry. He's such a sweet dog. I told her to put locks on her gates. She said that Major will never be left in the yard by himself again. |
